Angel eyes
So, I have the factory angel eyes and I plan to upgrade. I research and see a lot of controversy over different brands to get, which ones to get, which not to get, etc. Some aren't bright during the day but look good at night, etc. Well, I really don't want to replace the angel eyes, so orion v4's are out of the question. I don't want to have to bake my lights to take them apart. My e46 had the tabs that you could just snap the lenses off, so I had the 80LED angel eyes on those. Bright as fcuk during the day. I love them. I'm looking for something similar (as bright) for my e92... a lot of people say LUX brand but they're expensive, or the 40watt CREE LEDs.... Has anyone thought to replace the H8 bulb with a HID bulb? Would it be too hot? You could get the 35watt ballast kit, don't necessarily need the 55watt kit. I figure HIDs would be brighter than any LED right? Anyone see a downside (other than heat possibly)? You can get the HID kit for less than the 40watt CREE LEDs.
http://www.ddmtuning.com/Products/DD...ast-35W-or-55W Select 35watt from the drop down menu, then H8 bulb size, then pick your color of choice... Just wondering if anyone has used HIDs in their angel eyes, or thought about doing it and what the downside to it would be. Only thing I can think is possibly heat.

A lot of people will warn you that HID Angel eyes may burn the plastic and cause them to yellow and then ruined. LED Angel eyes, such as the Lux H8 V4 will not caue this, and as well will be more evenly distributed between the inner and outer rings.

Those aren't going to fit the Angel Eye inverted T tabs are they?
I just upgraded from the 20Watt Cree bulbs to the 40Watt version. Not really a lot brighter with the 490Watts, but they're in so I'll be keeping them. But I'd sell you the 20Watt Cree bulbs for $35.00 with free shipping! The bulbs are about 1 year old and in excellent shape. Very few hours on them as my E92 is a weekend driver only at this point. PM me if interested.

I have lux v3 6500k and I must say, all the LED bulb replacements are pretty much the same.
Difference from $60 20W cree LED to $90 40W Cree LED to $150 used LUX V3 6500k is tiny. There is pretty much no difference in any of them besides LUX being able to light up the outer ring at most 10% better if even that, could be a placebo effect since I paid premium $ and was not satisfied from spending the extra to upgrade from the 20w crees. |

This was about 2 hours before sunset, just with a very fast shutter speed so that is why it appears so dark . Also this photo wasnt edited at all in Photoshop or any other program. The only thing that was changed was the words overlayed

The reason I was considering the HIDs rather than LEDs is because LEDs (even LUX) are directional. Meaning they shine in one direction. HIDs and the OEM halogen lights shine 360 degrees around the bulb. The reason the outer ring on the E92s doesn't light up really well with aftermarket LEDs is because the direction of the LEDs is focused on the inner ring. The outer ring depends on a reflection off of the inner ring to illuminate it. If you have all your light focused down towards the inner ring, there is no light aimed towards the outside rings and hence no illumination. HIDs are bright in a 360 degree direction, therefore would light up the outer ring a HELL of a lot better than LEDs ever could. (Not to mention 35watt HIDs usually throw about 3200 lumens, 55watt HIDs throw around 5,000 lumens. I don't believe LEDs come close to that) so therefore, they are BRIGHTER, and throw light in a better pattern than LEDs (regardless of the brand) however, the only downside, is that HIDs get hot. I'm just curious if they would get TOO hot for the angel eye housing. If they would work heat-wise, then HIDs would definitely be the way to go.
