DIY on this forum; but it's not that involved. FWIW, $300 is the going rate down here if they're using 3M. It's about 3-4 hours of labor.

I'm looking into it right now. I'll get some quotes around the Salt Lake City area but I bet they will be charging around $300. Honestly I don't know if I would do it right myself, so I am thinking about just paying someone....

I'm sure it varies depending on the installer. Between removing the parts, prep work, and touch up, it took over 3 hours. That included wrapping the shark fin. I wasn't billed by the hour so it wasn't a big deal.

I tried doing it myself on my alpine white and I left it for a day and it started bubbling.
Prep is 95% of the work, 3% in smoothing it out and 2% in the cutting of the vinyl. Key word of advice, buy a lil' chizler, avery vinyl spreader/card and an xacto knife with SHARP new blades. I might even start doing this part time for people in the FL area -- this and coding. Contact me if you're interested. |

Super easy to do. Get the 1080 3M Vinyl in whatever style you want, 4x5. My fiancé helped me put mines on. You just need an extra pair of hands to pull while you smooth it out. Get a heat gun and a an exacto knife. Follow the very simple DIY video from Metro styling on YouTube. Take your time and save 300 bucks. The nerve of these places, complete RIP OFF!

$375 is not completely absurd, but you can do better than that. It is not a difficult task but remember: you get what you pay for. cheap labor = shoddy job. (most of the time)

Do any of you guys with wrapped roofs ever use roof racks? Ive been wanting to do it but am concerned with the wrap peeling around the edges from opening and closing those little covers when installing/uninstalling the base bars. When they wrap it do they leave those little covers functional? Seems like a pretty tight space to work with.

in socal, i can get the whole roof and shark fin wrapped in high quality gloss black vinyl (hexis, oracal, or 3m) for $175-200 at reputable shops (like impressive wraps or don nguyen). Labor should not take more than 2 hours especially with pros. I'm an amateur and I can do it in less than 2 hrs with a 2nd person for assistance (highly recommended for a perfect application)
wrapping it is not hard, but if it's your first time ever....chances are you're going to mess it up or the outcome is quite far from perfection. I did it myself and it took me the 3rd try to have a perfect outcome. (cost in wrap came out to be the same as how much I'd pay at a professional shop. but the bright side is that I gained a new skill with vinyl...I can confidently wrap pretty much everything now. Yes i can even wrap the shark fin myself) regarding the little roof rack mount door/covers on the rails...if you want it to be functional..you would need to plastidip them. wrapping it is very hard and chances are it will not turn out pretty when you remove the roof rack. |

forget about 3m, i highly recommend Hexis 20000 gloss black...it is much easier to apply, better result, slightly cheaper than 3m, and the quality is the same as 3m. Hexis is a good brand from France.
