Has Anyone Tried Merging Two Bumpers Together?

I really like the 1M front bumper for E90. But I think the price 2K is too steep, because two OEM bumpers have to be cut & merge together. I heard that 1M bumpers are getting hard to find because of the demand of using it to get customized for other models.

I just recently saw one that sells for 1K, except it’s made of fiberglass. The price is still too much for a fiberglass bumper, which we know that will not last.

I saw some 1M replicas on ebay that only cost $400+ and its Poly Plastic something. Now, it will be cheaper to buy that & use our current bumper to merge it together. I guess, it will not cost us 1K to do it plus it will be more durable than a 1k fiberglass one.

Does anyone here have tried to DIY this before? I mean, not the 1M in particular but any bumpers.

if you want to mold two bumpers together, you would need to get your 1M for $400 plus, and if you want to use your stock bumper for the mold, you would need to pay for paint strip and primer, then the cut and mold. Fiberglass is usually the easiest to work with for a custom mold. Usually ebay bumpers are polypropylene where our oem bumpers are made of poly urethane, molding two different materials together will be rather costly because the materials will not hold tight with the bond and they would probably need to add fiberglass material in between anyways.

Molding two bumpers together is easy in concept, you measure out where you want to cut from one bumper and cut both bumpers at the exact same dimensions, then just bond it together with which ever bonding agent the material of the bumper calls for.

if u have any fiber-glassing experience, it shouldn't be hard...

but this depends on your skill. ive seen it done on other cars...the hard part is getting it done, being smooth and uniform.

measure twice, cut once

Thanks for the info's Matthew. I have no idea about those poly poly things. So, it wasn't easy as I'm expecting. Anyway, I might try to buy a couple of cheap beat up bumpers & play with it first.

BTW, I saw that you are selling your M3 rep bumper. Are you planning to replace it with 1M bumper?

Want to, but too expensive. I don't want to spend too much for a bumper because it's not easy to replace in case I get into fender bender accident.

Sad to say, I don't have any experience. But I'm a DIY guy & hope I can develop that skill like what I did with my wrapping.
