Buying dealer launch car M4 (dealer demo)

Hey guys,

The dealer that I have my deposit with for the M4 gave me a call and asked If I was interested in perhaps buying the launch car.

This is all new to me so i'm posting this thread to find out how good of an idea this is. Do people get to test drive the car? I'm guessing everyone that wants get to just sit in it? lol

I plan on getting the M4 with CCB so idk how good of an idea it is to buy a launch car. I also have intentions on doing ED and he mentioned that if I decide to go with the launch car that obviously wouldn't be a possibility anymore.

We have just configured our launch M4 and your dealer has already or will ask you to commit to this vehicle and configure it to your specs. The advantage is that yours would be the first. You have a very short window to make a decision. It, basically, is just like an ordinary order.

Do people test drive the launch car? or sit in it? and what do you mean exactly by my car will be the first? When will I get the car? I heard launch cars hit dealers 3 month before the release of the car.

Why would anyone who order a car let it be used by others? I don't get it. If I order the car no other customer drives it, no exceptions. A launch car will be used by others, count on it.

The launch car is suppose to be a car for each dealer to show to customers etc. but if they are willing to give you the car then go for it. We should get the launch cars roughly 3-5weeks before the 1st allocations start to roll in. When that will be nobody knows yet.

if you don't want anyone to drive the car etc. maybe you get that in writing from the dealer

I see this going two ways.
1) It gets sat in and probably test driven for a few weeks, so you get a decent chunk of $$ off when you take delivery.
2) You get an early delivery and they want to sell at MSRP or above and no one touches it.

If you wanted ED, stick with that. If you want CCB, I bet you could spec that on their launch car and in fact they would probably want that.

Sorry if this has already been said, but here is a the jist...

Launch cars are the first vehicle, usually to demo to potential customers...
Being an M car, it will not be driven too much, but I anticipate it will be driven, usually around 500 miles, unless you somehow have an agreement with the dealer.

When we got our first Cayman in, it was used as a demo THEN sold at a discounted, launch car price. Have not heard of any dealers trying to sell their launch cars before they arrive.

My guess is your salesperson is trying to get the car configured to your liking, so you will have a car exactly how you want it for sale in the near future.

Another word for DEMO, so chances are you won't take possession of it until it's sat at the dealers for two weeks or so.

I am number 2 on the waiting list with my local dealer. My salesperson said that the dealership is going to order the launch cars and I will get to buy the second one without it being test driven or demo'ed. I hope that is true, otherwise I won't buy a demo.

I wouldn't advise buying a car that has ever been test driven.

Heck if I saw my dealer hooning my car before delivery I'd probably have a meltdown.

The employees drive it, drive the shit out of it, show the other employees how fast it is, etc. People test drive it, see how fast it is, etc. It is the first or among the first few cars there, and everyone wants to ride her.

Odds of it actually just being dropped off the delivery truck, waxed, and gently presented to you in the delivery bay are pretty slim.

When I bought my E46 M3, I think it had 7 miles on it and it was hot off the truck. I won't buy one if it has been test driven with unnecessary miles.

I had a new one that had 7 or 8 miles off the truck. That seems to be the magic number to know. Any higher and you wonder if anyone had their way with your girl before you did!

What am I going to do if I am test driving the dealer's demo M4? Beat on it. What's everyone else going to do? Same thing.
