picked up german import 335i some questions

Pretty neat! But I am wondering the differneces between the american vs german 335i with xdrive.

I noticed the maps are all german from 2008, can I upgrade that? I read I might have to upgrade idrive, then maps? Do I have CCC or CIC? Do I need to get the FSC code and can I update via USB?

One problem I noticed, the cars climate control is a little odd, the vents that blow directly to the people only blows HOT if you sleect 84F, otherwise at 83F its pretty cold.

Is there any way to add factory BT to the car still? It has navi + idrive, so hopefully not too hard?

Is it possible to do a carfax similar service of a car from germany?

Can I tell how big the hard drive is in the car? Can I wipe the old music on here and add just new? Is there specific formats the files must be in?

Thanks guys, you've all been very helpeful!

Turn the red/blue dial in between the 2 center vents to red.
Took me a while to figure this out to, just got cold enough down here this weekend to use heat.

Ok yes, but I'm assuming he meant he somehow has a car built for the German market and not originally intended for use in the US.

I think he created two posts about the same thing.

There's another post where he says that there's a large gap in the carfax and he found out it was shipped over from Germany around 50K miles.

You can't import a car that's made for Germany, you can only import the one thats made for US market.

Yeah and I wouldn't call it "neat".....there is zero history behind the car for 50k miles....could've been totaled twice before

At least thats how it works on the export side from US......beautiful salvage cars exported to other countries. Good business too

Since it's an 08, you just got to get a North American Map disk. It'll work fine. When I did EuroDelivery on mine, I just popped in a Euro map disk when I was there. It still had some of the Germany address entries when I got it back in US under the history of destinatinos even with the North American map disk.

CCC, no hard drive (unless you have a japanese market e90 - those came with HDD in 08 but are RHD). Make sure the slider in the center vent is on the red side for max heat. If CCC, map updates by disk swap out. Read up on BT retrofit on DIY section.

Are you sure your car wasn't a US bound EuroDelivery car?

I know, which is why I'm questioning him. I'm guessing its a US spec car driven in Germany by military then "imported" back to the US.

It's possible it was eurodelivery, but actually lived in germany for 3 -4 years first? As all maint records are from german dealers.

What's RHD? I also don't have a seperate DVD drive, only one CD drive spot. I also see some songs were preloaded so I deleted the crap ones and will try uploading my own, that's why I was wondering what format.

This just me questioning what differences there are so I can confirm it's a german built car imported to the US, or vice versa.

2009, no BT, but has nav and whatnot.

Oh then you have an 09, I assumed that since your maps were 08, that you owned an 08. 09's have CIC navigation and you will need FSC codes to update maps. There is a guy on another forum that sells the FSC codes.

Your car is probably a USA spec car that was ordered under the military plan.

Right Hand Drive.

German/US differences are airbags, lighting, other hard-to-notice things.

If you have airbag warnings on the sun-visors (in english), it's a US/CA car. I think that's the most visible difference.
