Window Tint
Hey guys, don't know if there is already a post on this so I apologize in advance if there already is.
Anyway, I finally set up an appointment for tint and I was wondering what combos I should get. NO WINDSHIELD! Other than that everyone I'm asking is saying that the 5% on the front to dark to see at night. They are saying 15%. I'm dead set on 5% in the back so all I'm looking for is if anyones had 5% in the front is if it was hard to see. Thanks! |

Lol dude, 5% is dark as hell. I sometimes have trouble seeing at night and I have 25% front and 20% rear on my E90. I love my setup because it's enough for police to see me through my window at night or at least my figure and dark enough during daytime where you can barely see me.
Look at my sig below. It's small but you can see it.

5% is limo tint way more than you want. 25-35 is about ideal. Don't be that douche that has mixed tint just do the same all around. My Audi came with 50% (legal) in the front and 20 on the back windows and it looked retarded. The guy I bought the car off got ticketed so much he had to change the fronts.

Lol I remember my friend coming over once to show me his new window tint. He didn't want it too dark and did 40%, I thought he was joking with me about getting a tint lol..

Since you are in Jersey I believe you should stay away from that 5%. That is really just saying "hey pull me over" to the guys in blue.
Would you mind telling What shop and what price are they charging you? |

I'm actually looking to get tinting done on my car too. Previous car had 20% all around which wasn't that bad, I never got pulled over once in 3 years of owning the car. I'll probably get the same tinting done on this one. As it's a black car, I think it'll look even better than it did on my gray-green E46.

What color is your interior? That can actually make a big difference on how dark the tint appears during day.
On that note I have 5% all the way around (not windshield) on low lit roads, seeing out windows is minimal at best. At night IMO should be your only concern. During the day it is 100% fine. I've had 5% on pretty much every car I've ever owned, it just takes some getting used too. 20% is still pretty transparent, if you like the look of 5% you're not going to be satisfied with anything lighter IMO. Nothing worse than paying for tint, pulling up, seeing car and the first thing you think is "I should have gone darker." I live in the suburbs outside of Chicago and haven't had any issues police wise with my tints in the burbs or in the city, although I have heard some horror stories. |

Nothing personal buddy but split tint looks terrible, that's something you see on suvs and vans from factory. If you're going to do appearance mods then going with the same tint all around is like a free appearance boost. I hated the front half of my Audi because of it, but I couldn't justify getting the fronts redone because it's not thaaaat bad. I'm just picky I guess don't let me offend you it's your car not mine.

had 20% on my old STi... was perfect.
Been contemplating the tint for the 335i, but I think with Space Gray and Black Interior, i can get away with 35% and still look fine. Been more worried about the dot matrix though. So far, almost all the shops I have talked to are hesitant about the Dot Matrix.

I have 20% all around except the front windshield. Do not get 5%, you wont be able to see anything at night as it is hard for me to see at night with 20% tints.

Yes. It's hard to see. Don't do it. And as others have said, don't do split tint either, it looks terrible and unrefined, against the spirit of the car. Split tint is for the mirror front plate with a roundel in the middle/ chrome wheels/calling your car a "BM" crowd. If that is you, proceed! |
