I wrap my wife's X3 roof with glossy & it looks like it's painted plus it blends with the moon roof.

painting it gloss black (by a legit paint shop) will always look better than gloss vinyl... but i would only paint the roof if i didnt care about a car's resale value later.

gloss black vinyl is the safest and cleanest choice otherwise.

Paint trumps the vinyl all day.. The vinyl will never look as good.

With that said, ive wrapped a few roofs. Best alternative hands down.

you can buy enough material to do the roof for $60 or so. 2 yards of 60" wide material is plenty.

If you don't care about resale value later paint will always looks the best. Otherwise vinyl is the next best alternative.

I did this to my old g35 coupe. Take the shark fin off and plasti dip it and give it a gloss finish .Its not that hard but you will need another pair of hands. Take your time and it will turn out perfectly. There are a bunch on video on youtube check em out

You have any ideas how dramatic it'll change the sale value

I think a vinyl wrap is a great non-destructive mod. Painting the roof would severely affect the resale value, IMO.

If you have no sunroof, matte is fine (even though I prefer gloss). But, if you have a sunroof, I think it looks horrible to see the matte interrupted by the sunroof. That's just me though.

I have no idea. If you sell it to another enthusiast, that person would probably love it but trading it into a dealership is a different story. If I had to take a wild guess and I'm no expert, they'll probably offer you $1-2K below your cars value against you because the paint isn't from factory.
