About 10 cents per 2 octane. Don't be cheap.

Put in premium. Whatever you think you'll save in the cost per litre/gallon between 87 and 91, you'll end up losing more in poorer fuel economy.

Use what is recommended.
It doesn't say 'Premium' in the owners manual just to piss you off. A higher octane represents a higher resistance to detonation. If you use a lower octane gasoline in an engine designed for premium, the ECM will retard the timing and you performance and economy will suffer. Conversely, there is generally no advantage to putting premium in an engine designed for regular. You may (or may not) get some additives that aren't in regular but you won't be going any quicker unless you play with the ECM.

Well ive always been putting premium, but i lend the car to my dad for 3 days and he put $10 worth of unleaded. After that he told me that he filled it up with premium when I found out. It was only one time...

All gas is now unleaded. Putting $10 of regular gas into your car once shouldn't hurt it.

Lets just say if you ever have an engine issue and it goes to the dealer and they decide to test your gas and they find you are not using the recommended fuel bam your warranty is void. So if you really think its worth saving $2 every fill up then go for it, it might end up costing you in the long run if you have an issue.

Your car is equipped with cylinder-specific knock control. This means that when you put in a gasoline with lower octane, the computer will retard the ignition timing to prevent knock. This means you will have less performance and WORSE FUEL MILEAGE. Long story made short --> Using Premium will cost you the same as using Regular gas due to better gas mileage from premium and your car will be much more enjoyable with premium gas. Also, the long term health of your engine will be better with premium. |

Lets see, we spend $38K+ on a car then a bunch more $$ on upgades and mods, and dont want to spend an extra $4.00 for a tank of gas...something doesnt add up

But, BMWs were designed for premium, so the simple answer is to use it. Someday everyone will be like the 2k8 CTS and deliver the 300+ HP while being designed for 87. |

The 328 is 87 and the 335 is 89 minimum. But it was designed for super, so there is a benefit to using super. If it were an '08 CTS with direct injection, the car was designed for 87 (beautiful), so there would be zero benefit to using 91 or 93. |

Do as I did. Test mpg for both regular and premium. Then choose a long straight hill and test for top speed at the top with both fuels. This will give you some indication as to what power gain or loss you have with each fuel. Then decide which fuel you should use. The results will save you money. BTW... regular is acceptable in a 325/328 and will NOT void your warranty.
