E or F series?

We had an E82 116i (I know, not the engine you are asking about but stick with me). At the time we also had a pre LCI E90 and the E82 was quite a leap down in terms of interior standard. It was built well enough but it was just a bit basic and some materials such as dash facias felt a little cheaper than the E90.

I currently have a F20 125d. This car has the same N47 engine as both the new and old 120d (same as 320d). It's the engine that watchdog did the feature on recently regarding the timing belt issue. It's the second i've had with no issues but i wouldn't have one without a good, preferably a BMW warranty on it.

It's an agricultural engine in terms of refinement but it's quick enough for a diesel and it suits the slightly more light footed chassis of the 1 series well.

My wife has an E82 2.0d M-Sport - considering it's a small-ish hatch, 177bhp makes it pretty spritely. I enjoy driving it but equipment levels on the non M-Sport models is a bit meagre. It's going next week to be replaced my a new X1 X-Drive, with the same engine.

Good cars, I reckon.
