What a difference
I drive a 2011 335i as a daily. I brought my car into get serviced and got a 2013 328i. What a major step down. It feels like I'm driving a corolla (no offense if you love corolla's).
The steering wheel is loose and has no pep. Anyone else feel this way? |

2013 328 isn't the beast a 335i is, but it's definitely zippier than an e90 328. Steering is precise but with very muted feedback. Seats are way more comfortable, and has more that comes standard than a base e90.
All in all, it's a step up in many ways, but it does have its drawbacks.

It happens every year. Almost as bad as tuition rate hikes.

I'd say you borrow a corolla from someone you know for a week, then when you get your 328 back, you will appreciate it more? :P |

You're talking to somebody who was driving the lowest model Ford focus for nearly 2 weeks from an enterprise Rent-A-Car due to my ride being repaired from a little boo-boo- best way to fall in love with your car all over again! |

My 2011 328i E90 was in for some warranty work last week and I was given 2013 328i loaners. I'll keep my E90 328i over a F30 328i: steering and handling feel, AWFUL engine sound at idle (sounds like a TDI), terrible fuel saving engine restart from stops. It also felt too big for my taste both in how it drove and in terms of interior room.

I mean personally I would rather get one of the 3.5L 300HP competitor cars over a 328i (G37, IS350, C350) but that's only because I enjoy having the extra power even though I don't regularly take advantage of it. The last part seems paradoxical at first glance, but it's very pleasurable for me to depress the pedal 1/10 of the way down to cruise at 60 or 70 MPH versus 1/4 or 1/3 of the way down as I would have to do with a 328.
Also, the fact that a G37/IS350 cost pretty much the same as a 328i is a huge bonus as well (the C350 is more in line with the 335i IIRC). |

Having spent some time now with a F30 328i base, 328i sportline, and 335i sportline (all x-drive 8AT... it's Michigan, people here forget everyone bought RWD for decades), I can say beyond the shadow of a doubt that the 328i sportline to 328i base is perhaps the largest feeling trim difference of any car I've ever driven.
For a daily (I've got my 335is 6MT for fun), the 328i sportline with a 6MT and RWD I could see being extremely fun and a great all arounder. Granted, anywhere near 6-7/10ths you realize just how little feedback the steering has and it's unnerving at first, but the chassis is there. If I had one car I don't think I'd buy one, I'd want too much feedback out of that car, but as a second car it really does a fantastic job. I take it you got a 328i base? Next time be sure to request a sportline if your dealer has one. |

I actually made a thread about 328xi vs Corolla. My Corolla indeed felt better than the 328xi i drove before. It's all about pedal sensitive. Now the 328xi I got fell way before than my old corolla. But yea I understand your point. The corolla is way less heavy, and it just really kick you at acceleration, while the 328 can't really do that at low RPM.

I don't engage in "daily driver culture" in general but from what I've seen the usual rationale to have a daily driver and a weekend car is because the weekend car is sufficiently different in some way (be it less practical, significantly more expensive (exotic), "track"-able, etc.). P.S. I know you don't have a 328i as a daily and a 335is as a fun car. I'm just speaking hypothetically. |

I've decided to keep my car for 10 years or until it falls apart. So I guess I'll keep it for about 3 years. |
