Where to buy OEM battery?
I'm interested in buying the OEM battery for my car and having a local shop do the "registration".
I'm guessing I will need to give my VIN number to a dealer to figure out which battery it is? I have a "World Source One" battery right now, so nothing to refer to. Any suggestions on where to order?

Just get your part number from your existing battery and call dealer for same specs battery and no need for coding. If your is a white battery, they are acid lead kind. It costed me about $160.00. No coding necessary nor registration. A lot of people here says registration is a must, but I was told not on 05-06 models. Only on newer AGM betteries.

Why are you intent on replacing your current battery with an OEM one? You can find one with equivalent specifications at your local auto parts store for half of the price.

Just go to the dealer and pay $280 incl. installation and registration. Could it be $30-$50 more than the shop around the corner, yep. But they know how to do it and will register it. The list of the battery is already $200, so $80 labor at a BMW dealer? That's fair imho. Considering a discount the battery is $160 and they're getting $120 for their labor, again, at a BMW dealer, that's fair.

I found an indie shop that'll register it for very little.

Autozone carries two excellent replacements. They offer a lead acid in the correct size and offer a AGM battery in the correct size as well. 3 year free replacment warrenty and a prorate on them that work at any store around in the nation.
