SSTT and CA Speedway

A customer of mine purchased a Split Second Turbo Tuner and this weekend attended a BMW CCA HPDE event.

Here's his report http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=88277

Too bad the stangs were slowing him down.

Nice write up! Good to see the 335 on the track. Sounds like the SSTT is good to go for track events. No overheating?

Thanks for the vids.

280F was the max that he saw but that's also with an oil cooler and ELF Solaris LSX 5w-30 oil.

Jon -

Thanks for helping me get the car setup for the event and for the tech! DUring registration Delight Lucas (the chair of the drivers school program) asked who did the tech (she was skeptical that I actually had it done). I said The M Shop and she immediately put the form away and said "then it was done right."

I think next time I am going to try Redline 10W-40 instead. I was a little uncomfortable with 280 degrees but the car did not seem to mind. I will call and schedule an appointment to get the oil changed before the next event.

Thanks again! You and the folks at your shop are great!!

Jeff. I was there this weekend I have no oil cooler and standard bmw oil. I did have serious heat issues. I consistantly reached 290 and as high as 299. Although it performed great, after a series of turns I was able to get the point-by from a c6 Z06. (It felt great) Heat was a serious issue, the last 2 or 3 laps each session I had to take it easy to avoid limp.

Man that is hot. I was talking to Mark from Split Second who was racing and teaching all weekend. He said it was pretty hot on the track even in his killer E30 M3 but I would definitely get BMW to install that second cooler! Also the oil change should be a good help too. I think for the serious track event guys the new front mount intercoolers are going to be a huge improvement!

Huh? He was having oil temperature issues not intake air temp issues.

Perhaps what he was suggesting (and this is just a guess) is that if you remove heat from the intake side, it will result in a cooler burn and thus reduce the overall temps, thereby helping the oil cooler do its job?

I do know that I did not have a significant issue (barely touched 280 at one point) that day. The oil cooler seemed to do its job!

I continue to wonder if a SPAL fan on the oil cooler would help reduce temperatures a bit. All I want is a few degrees...

I bet the fan idea would help at lower speeds keep you from heat soaking while in caution or slow laps. To bad you can do a water spray cooler like they do on Front mount intercoolers! Evaporation gives serious cooling!

Man, I surely hope that wasn't what he was suggesting since it couldn't be further from the truth.

I understand. Jeff...what did you mean?

And what about the idea of a water spray on the oil cooler?
