S5 vs 335i - both stock.

So I was just driving home from work yesterday afternoon and I stopped at a light. No one infront of me, long, 3 lane straight away with no cars ahead.

Random Audi pulls up next to me and I didn't bother looking to see what it was.

I notice him inching up and figured what the heck. Dropped it into Sports AT, turned off DTC.

We both take off, I get him off the line but we're pretty neck and neck in first gear. Once I hit second gear it was all over. I just started inching away from him and he couldn't keep up. I kept pulling on him until he was about 1.5 car lengths back. Bout half a mile at this point.

Let off the gas and he eventually passes me. Only then do I notice it's an S5. 2012 or 2013 for sure.

Next light we took off again and again the same result.

I was just surprised since I thought they were supposed to be faster than a 335i stock in a straight away. It's not that much heavier than the 335i and it's got more stock torque and HP. The 0-60 times are even listed as faster than the 335.

Maybe they're just not as fast as I thought they were! Someone more versed in the specifications can let me know why or why not :P Possibly the AWD in the Audi.

Just made me love my 335 even more! Can't wait to start putting in some performance upgrades!

Unless it was a '13 I think it has their old 4.2 NA V8. Our cars can certainly keep up with it. It sounds amazing but its a bit sluggish.

Ah, no it was the V6T, saw it on the side of the car as he passed me. Not the old V8 for sure. So it was a 2013 then. Forgot to mention that.

I think in a straight line they're supposed to be as fast if not a hair quicker than our 335.

I guess while they're beautiful cars, they arn't really about performance.

Yup, bone stock for now. Only a few exterior cosmetic things done. Nothing performance wise.

Audi S line is a bit lack luster esp compared to BMW M series. The S4 / S5 is a pretty decent match against a n54. If you want a real performance Audi you need the RS line and we only get those in the states every once in a while

+1

I can see beating the old v8, but that supercharged v6 is supposed to be quick.

Half mile? So your saying you we're well over 130 mph? Yikes!

Next time launch in 2nd, your 0-60 ft. Will greatly improove.

You're all missing the most important factor: driver skill.

+2. A skilled driver in a S4/S5 will go toe-to-toe with a stock 335i any time of the day.

I know it's not the same car but my dad has a a6 avant with the v6t and my car is faster, granted his is heavier, I can see the s5 vs 335 being a good race.

Also what rpm do you all launch at in 2nd?

Another important factor: willingness to abuse your transmission. In my experience, most enthusiasts are unwilling to properly launch their cars for fear of breaking something. An AWD car like an S5 will lose much of its traction advantage if it isn't launched properly.

n54 probably puts out very similar numbers to the s5...... n55 I would be willing to bet probably would of ended with a different result. Unless the Audi driver doesn't know how to shift.
To be completely honest (I hate to say it), I would take the 2013 s5 over the new 435 anyday of the week... more accomplished awd, stock quads, more aggressive IMO.

take this with a grain of salt, Audis 3.2 I'm disregarding as it doesn't match up well with any (IMO)..... pretty sure they match up 328i vs a5 2.0t, 335 vs S5, RS vs. M3/4

Not if it's stock. If it's stock the first gear will give you better 0-60. If it's modded then yes

i would take the s5 over a 435 as well but thats because the 435 is a step down from an e92 in my opinion in the looks department
