No heat issue at AutoX w/ V1.47 Procede
This is probably no surprise to most, but I am posting in case it helps some who are worried about autox and running their 335i too hard for heat purposes.
I went to a BMW club auto cross event...the course was one mile...got six runs with breaks of about 10 minutes between each run. The ambient temps were about 86. I pushed the car to it limits in first and second gear. I'm not sure if or when I got into third, or what speed I gained, because when racing my eyes were focused on the track. I went WOT in the more straight line portions and had a nice long bending turn that I actually drifted through (damn fun). I barely used the brakes, just focused instead on smooth running through the track with just a little braking. Anyhow, I am not a very experienced autocrosser, so i was pleasantly surprised that my times beat a few M3s, a viper, some miatas, 330is, etc. I was smoked by some Mini coopers and miatas and by this sick, twin turbo Rx7, among others, all of whom were much more experienced than me. But, the temps in the car, with my oil cooler retrofit, did not exceed 260. I have an automatic. I know that autox is much different than tracking on a 2-3 mile course over and over, but my times were under one minute, like around 53secs, and again, i pushed it pretty hard and for that period of time the car held up very well with stock exhaust, wheels, tires, and just V 1.47 Procede. No heat issues for the oil. I didn't measure coolant temps, but experienced no limp issues either. |

The next one is Sunday, Oct. 14th. I'm already signed up. If you are unable to sign up, I wouldn't mind meeting you at the fairgrounds and we could split the runs, with you driving my car and me sitting as a passenger and vice versa. I could learn that way.
