Edmunds Insideline erroneously claiming M4 will have AWD
according to edmunds InsideLine...
http://www.edmunds.com/car-news/bmw-...delegance.html "And in a new and useful departure, the M4 is also expected to offer all-wheel drive." |

It'd be cool if it was an option, but I'll believe it when BMW officially announces it. Journalist speculation drives me nuts.
Also, I do recall the head of M stating that they won't be doing AWD (yet) except in X's. Maybe this ideology is changing given AMG's development of their AWD system (and Ferrari). |

AWD should be an option(A Option) on the M4, you dont want AWD dont buy one, some people do, like those that want traction.

Where does this shit come from?
It's been stated by the head of M division and other big wheels at BMW, in interviews linked and quoted here on this forum and in other outlets, in no uncertain terms, absolutely not. No AWD. Not gonna happen. But I guess journalism is dead. Accuracy is no longer important, just repeating rumours is considered newsworthy, even if they're wrong.

I think the FI is driven more by cost vs benefit, given the number of M cars vs BMW's total production numbers don't move the needle much in terms of company averages for fuel efficiency. There are lots of N/A examples of better fuel consumption and Co2 emissions (ironically coming from the US) so BMW could have gotten more creative with displacement combinations, cylinder de-activation, direct injection in N/A, serious weight loss, additional overdrive gears, transmission tricks such as gear-skipping (like Corvette Z06) and using 0W20 Torco low friction motor oil (j/k). In the US, they could also be buying electric car producers carbon credits (Tesla is sure selling a lot of them) to also have an impact on averages. Problem is all this stuff costs money and BMW is dead set on expanding margins through cost savings/platform sharing and growing revenues by broadening appeal of their cars, so FI is the most obvious answer for most mass car manufacturers.

Anything is possible at this point. If the M4 is AWD then so be it. Not a big deal.
Regardless of what the "M" folks said, doesn't mean it's set in stone until it hits production. We aren't there yet, so again, AWD can be a possibility. Some of you folks need to stop being so close minded and stop taking what you hear as god. |

Yay for more weight and understeer!
Rwd was one of the deciding factors for me. I do love awd and the grip and launch it provides, but good rwd is preferable. |

agreed, if they switch to awd you might as well buy an audi or merc.

I'm just glad there are any Hybrid Ms out there, all it would take is stricter emission regulations from government

True and the M was supposed to be NA but look now it has a Turbo! Not one, not two but THREE! The "old M philosphy" is now flushed down the toilet. "True" fanbois will not buy the new M with turbo lol.
Also if you noticed there is already an M AWD! X5M and X6M. Anyways that being said it would be nice to have AWD! AMG, Lambo, Ferrari and Porsche seems to be gearing (or already) in that direction. Super car such as the GTR.

Admunds gets shit wrong on some cars even after its released. Zero credibility on this one. Prolly some editor looked up bmw website and saw reg 3 series gets awd versions so why not M3?
