Intercooler question

Hi guys,
I'm after some advice, I went to Germany two weeks ago and ran my 330d e90 around the nurburgring. It's been de-dpf, remapped, air filter, swirl flaps removed. It made 269bhp and about 440ft ibs of torque at the flywheel.

While I was at the ring I used my snap on solus pro to monitor coolant and charge air temps. It was quite suprising to be honest, with an ambient of 22-25'c the charge air reached 102'c every run, coolant temp hit a high of 112'c. I had no coolant warning come on and carried on anyway.

My question to you is, how many of you have a bigger intercooler fitted? Did it make a difference? And also what do you do for coolant/Cooling options? I do plan on using my car for track use here in the uk! I drive fast any way so all will be benificial! Hope you guys can help as I'm having not much luck or answers in the uk forum!

There are a few people here that have gone to a bigger IC like the Wagner one. Other than butt dynos, I don't think I've seen any empirical pre and post new IC data to help show how much, if any that it's better than the stock IC.

That's hot. Might want to consider using water + waterwetter for when you are tracking the car. Much better cooling capability.

All US/CA M57 engines have an oil cooler (cooled by water/coolant.) Attached to the oil filter housing: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...28&hg=11&fg=30. Looks like the EU versions do, too.

And we have an auxiliary radiator in the passenger side wheel well (same location as the oil cooler in the N54/55 cars).

I was thinking more along the lines of an additional oil cooler. As oil is also a coolant aswell as a lubricant. So I figure that might help control my temps slightly! Does the D go into limp mode if coolant temp gets high?

Also to the guy who posted the wetter product do you run that with or without antifreeze?

Our (USA/CA) cars do limp mode, but we have a different DDE than EU E9x do, so I'm not sure.

Using a coolant-to-oil heat exchanger allows the exchanger to be much smaller. Consider the M5 and it's S63tu engine: it uses water to air intercoolers, so I'm guessing that it does a good job of temperature control.

I haven't had to use it. But if I was seeing coolant temps that high doing an activity I was continuing to do ... then I would use it with the maximum cooling capability which is water + the waterwetter. Yikes, those temps are HOT!

Oh, and then of course make dang sure to change back to proper coolant for those months where temps are below freezing ...

I recommend the WEt Wetter great for track and daily use, I have the WAGNER IC and you can expect anywhere from 6 to about 12-15 HP gains on the wheel (with RENNtech Flash!)mind you if it is a cool day, my dyno testing was done on a hot and humid day of 90 degrees farenheit i dont know the conversion for Celsius you do the math ok.

And diesels shed heat very quickly. I would suspect that the OP would only see limp mode in order to protect the transmission. After all it's not like the engine is turning 8k rpms.

Socom I'm confused do you mean because of coolant temp it will limp mode or intercooler temps?

It's never dropped power but my recent dyno showed 269hp and 440 ibs ft of torque ish. Well mines had the dpf deleted and remapped but I think that low? What's you thoughts?

Bare in mind Dan-Dan is NOT running a 335d. He's start is 231HP and 500Nm.
A remap and DPF delete giving him 40Hp more, is normal.
Getting 70Hp from those mods is not possible. Simple as that

Thing is though people in the uk, claim to get 300 hp with my mods. Maybe it's normal. Also I have a squeak coming from my turbo area, seams possible I might have cracked my exhaust manifold but can't see it not even with my bore scope! Damn covers!!!
