Ceramic Controls option on 2014 X5?

Can anyone tell me the benefit of the Ceramic Controls option? I tried to find side-by-side views of standard vs ceramic controls and have not been successful?

Any insight would be helpful.

Thanks,
Pesh

You can also compare this feature on images of the current F10 (5-series).

Standard:

Ceramic:

Reviews about it are quite positive.

In the first picture, the shifter is in a light metal color. Same applies to the volume control button, the two dials for the temperature settings and - probably most important - the iDrive selector.

In the second picture, the light metal is replaced by a much darker ceramic.

BTW, if you order this feature and the optional 4-zone A/C-control, the rear temperature dials will be ceramic, too.

Great, thanks for sharing 760Lifan; if I end up buying the new X5, I'll most likely get this as an option.

Take care,
Alessandro

You're welcome, Patarix!

So far, I didn't have a chance to experience the ceramic option first hand but based on opinions of users who have it, they are 100% sold.

After reading some posts i tested the ceramic knobs and decided to add them as well. Really an asthetic thing only, however it does feel nice in the hand and is smoother to toggle through the menus. Also if you use the shifter in sport mode a lot it really is worth it. I always drive w my hand on the shifter out of habit so i added it. Thanks all for the input.
