Just in case... coding a new transmission to work with my car

My transmission took the final crap a couple weeks back. The transmission place and myself found a used one and they are installing it. They used the transfer case from my old car, but the rest of the transmission from the other car. I had 2 questions:

1) Will this need to be coded in order to work?

2) What program(s)/commands will I need to do this myself?

They are looking at charging me for towing and then the dealer fees for coding, so this may save me $300. Thanks!

I'm not sure, but I think that adaption should be resetted to learn the gearbox new driving style. Also you probably will need to reset EGS using NCS expert.
Anyway you can buy a cable and do it by your own.

I've got the cable... still need to get the communication between the car and computer (shouldn't be too hard), just was wondering which of the programs would be needed to get it working. I have the VIN of the old transmission.

You will reset adaption using INPA. To recode your EGS NCS expert will be enough.

I will PM you with software.

It should run OK. I'm assuming this because mine was rebuilt and got a brand new mechatronic. The shop said they programmed the VIN, but several months later I scanned with INPA and got a code; something about not being coded. Sure enough, the VIN read 0000000. The car doesn't seem to care and I never bothered to set it to the correct VIN.

Yeah... I got the car back now... he said he put it in and it just started working. Nothing needed.
