Tour De France ITV4 Live Coverage Sunday Afternoon

Tour De France ITV4 Live Coverage Sunday Afternoon.

One for the Cycling & Tour de France bods.

Clutching at straws here, but here goes, during the live coverage of TDF on Sunday afternoon, the stage had not started yet, and the two commentators were trying to fill in time.

One said to the other "What do I and Chris Froome have in common", other one answers "don't know", answer is "we both suffered from *******, which is a bug you can pick up overseas (Africa), which lives in your blood stream and causes bad fatigue & energy levels"............

I would like to know what ******* is (the name of the disease), I wasn't really listening, so didn't catch the name.

Anyone watch this programme, and know the missing word ????? maybe someone recorded it, have checked ITV player, and only highlights programme available, and sure that this boring bit would not be in the highlights.

Any help suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks.

Michael.

It's a parasitic infection, also called Schistosomiasis.

Essentially the parasite (a worm, 1-2cm), enters the skin, gets into the blood stream, and ends up in the liver and stays there laying eggs which are deposited in faeces. The worms can live in the liver for years, and its the bodies response to the eggs that cause damage to the liver.

In the UK its rare (<100 cases per year), but from what I understand in parts of the world its really common, 1 in 30 people world wide are suppose to have been infected at some point!!
