4 Series M-Performance LSD

As some have already read, the 4 series will have the option of a LSD (Limited-Slip Differential) as an option from the M-Performance Catalog. Do you think they will offer a LSD option for the 3 series?

I also wonder how much it will run considering its mechanical. I'm sure it will be more than the M-Performance Brakes?

The 4 series and 3 series should have the same rear end...for the 335i/435i at least...

Now we just need to figure out if the 328i and 335i have the same rear ends! Does anyone know?

For autos they are the same part numbers for 328i and 335i, part number 33107603749.

According to realoem it's the same for auto/manuals. I'm not sure why you made the distinction, so feel free to correct me.

This is good news though, this means we should be able to use the 4-series differential

Manuals have a different part number but I'm sure they will release for auto as well as manual.

I'd guess $5k installed. I'm pretty sure I read that our diff isn't easily accessible... Will need cutting/machining

In this thread:
http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=858575
download the "02_F30 Powertrain.pdf"
on chapter 7.1, 7.2 and 8.2.1 are some informations about the differential variants.
Looks like you said.
328i and 335i (automatic) have the same.
328i (Manual) has the same but with another gear ratio
335i (Manual) has a different one also different gear ratio

That's gonna be an expensive after market upgrade
Just saw, the part number you listed sells for about $ 1700 plus labour. (And LSD will sure be more expensive than the original diff.
I wonder if the software of DSC/DTC also needs to be changed?
(With LSD you need to have wheelspin on one wheel to get the other wheel turned.)

that's why I was figuring about $2k.

$5k no one would do, so trust me, they wouldn't even offer it.

I couldn't see it being anything but a factory option. I can't imagine dealerships doing any kind of machining. I just don't think the tooling and/or training is going to be there.

Personally I'm going to sit on the sidelines for an F30 version of http://store.vacmotorsports.com/vac-...als-p2324.aspx . Maybe if enough of us call they'll do the R&D

I've had http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365404 bookmarked for a while. It's missing some pics, but a very good writeup. This guy did his research and concluded Quaife.

Quaife is the shit... According to the link you provided, It looks like $4k total at a good shop.

I would hope you would order the diff with the right ring gear attached - and turn in your old for a core charge. That's the only way I can imagine that BMW would make it available after market - there's no way the average dealer could machine off the ring gear and tap it for bolts like the wavetrac guys do

I will definitely be picking up an LSD as one of my first mods... was looking at Wavetrac or Quaife, but if there's a *reasonably priced* M Perf option, then that would be the way to go. (No warranty issues, etc.)
I wonder how long until they make it available though - I was hoping to get one installed before the end of the year

Cost pricing for those wheels is about $3800 or so, I think my dealer and a few on ebay were pricing as such.

Most owners of the 335i are mildy inelastic up until about $5000. That's why they offered the MPPK WITH a DME (a new DME costs about $3900 according to my dealer) for $899 at cost, or about $1299 MSRP.
