New Puppy

Picked up the latest addition to our family yesterday, Holly, a 7 week old Doberman. She's very cute and has settled in really well - slept though the night in her crate downstairs with no crying at all! We thought she'd be really sad to have left the litter - but it seems not!

Working on the toilet training so the kitchen floor is a dangerous place to walk with no shoes on!

I've got 3 boys who are 7, 6, and 4 and they're loving having her around, and are doing really well with keeping her in check when all she really wants to do is nibble their feet!

I currently have a random dog in my office who strolled in this morning. No collar so waiting for someone to walk past looking for a dog!! A real ugly fucker...

Gorgeous pup, man. Nothing quite like the happiness a puppy can provide. As long as you can put up with all the associated aggravation, too!!

Nice bitch themetz.

Roger, looks like an ewok fucked a camel and spawned that thing. It's hideous.

Stunning Dobermann, got a 13 month old girl.
Enjoy her while she is that size, she will grow every day!
It's been a lot of hard work, much more than I imagined but worth every bit of it.

So.... was she claimed? Or have you got yourself a hot date for the evening?

She's beautiful!

We have two pooches - Sprocker Spaniels (cocker/spring cross). One is 2 and a half and the other is about 18 weeks.

Few words of advice that has helped us..

Keep her crated over night and whilst you are out. Some people think its cruel, real owners think they are a necessity.

Don't get disheartened with the toilet training, puppies cannot control their bladder until at least 6 months.

Get the basics installed as SOON as pos. Sit, Stay, Down, Walk. They only understand up to 60 human words, in a one word command function.

Don't punish bad behaviour, completely ignore it. Highly praise good behaviour.

and lastly...

GOOD LUCK when you get to 18 months...That's when the fun starts, she will challenge you for ownership as her adolescent stage kicks in. Stand your ground and all will be fine.

From one loving dog owner to another! HTH!

Adolescence starts well before 18 months, most owners rehome dogs between 6-9 months.
They think they have trained them to sit stay pee shit on command then a dobermann will do all of that in 5 mins when it wants.
I have had a dog trainer for the last 9 months and fully recommend you get some experienced help.
A bloody hard breed but well worth the time invested.

Thanks for the feedback chaps.... good advice as ever!

She's doing her business outside, sleeping well, eating well, and doing "sit", "down" and "heel" on command already (not consistently - but well impressed with how she picks things up!)

The nipping and chewing everything (particularly feet and legs!) is a bit tedious but she is getting better at not doing it!

Nice looking pup. Any pics of her standing?

Take plenty of pictures every week, then compare how much they grown in the first 12 - 18 months you'll be shocked.

I had male rottweiler, most say its hard to control and so on but mine was on point. Ofcourse his a trouble maker if I'm not around!
