Took my car to the dealership...
I took my car in Monday morning to the dealership for i-drive issues. THey said they would update the software to correct the issues (very slow iDrive system; Rebooting iDrive while navigation is on, or radio is on, interrupting everything)
They had problems with the car accepting the update, so on Tuesday they told me it wouldn't be ready until Wednesday. On Wednesday they said they retried but the system in my car kept failing to accept the update. They wanted another day, and they said they would replace the CCC (?) whatever that is. Thursday after the CCC replacement, they are still unable to get the system to accept the update, so they obtained a "just released" software, and would try to upload that now. Come Friday (today), they said nothing worked, so they ordered another CCC unit which will be in next Tuesday. :sad0147: In the mean time, I'm stuck in a Kia Rondo provided through Enterprise Rentacar. Anyone else experience issues with iDrive software not "accepting" updates and taking more than a week to fix? They said the update process takes 4 to 6 hours each time they attempt it. Is this correct? Anyway, thanks for letting me vent here... |

I had the exact same issue. My IDrive would reboot every few minutes. I finally took it to the dealer and it took them about a week to correct the issues. The diagnosis was the same as yours (...i.e...IDrive wouldn't accept the update, etc.). They finally had to replace the unit (...and my center console trim because they damaged it while doing the repair).
Quick note: If you have Voice Command in your car, the update will delete that operation (..at least that was the case w/ the 06 330i). The dealer will have to manually reinstall your Voice Command separate from the update. And yes, the process takes 4-6 hours each attempt. You should be happy that they aren't charging you for your rental. Riverside BMW now charges for the Enterprise rentals, and such a policy is highly upsetting (..my home dealer - Shelly BMW - does not charge for rentals). Luckily for me the dealer ended up paying for my rental because they kept my car for so long. |

Thank you, good to know!
I guess my major issue with the dealer was that every day they kept telling me it'll be ready the next day, 5 times straight (every day since Monday all the way through to Friday... ok Friday they said Tuesday, which is tomorrow). I wonder if I'll be disappointed again tomorrow when I check on status... |

Tell them you want a BMW loaner. A Kia loaner is unacceptable.

what most likely happened was they were updating your Idrive, and the SSS computer that does the programming probably lockedup/crashed, and it most likely was in the process of programming the CCC (car communication computer).
Ive had it happen to me several times when I used to work for BMW. Once it locks up in the middle of programming a certain module, there is little you can do to save it...usually it has to be replaced if BMWs tech service's instructions cannot bring it back to life. If a lot of modules in the car need to be updated, it will usually take 200-225 minutes, which is generally around 4 hours. The not accepting updates thing is what BMW is referring to about the tech hotlines instructions in reference to getting the module to reboot...since it was too far gone, the instructions to get it working again failed. Usually everything that is programmed before the CCC is fine. So if the CCC was being programmed at the very end, the only thing that needs to be finished is the CCC, and any modules after that. Could take 2 hours, could take 15 minutes. Sucks about the rental though. |

p.s. why is your screename HP collector? I just bought a 12C 25th anniversary edition and it's so cheesy compared to the 1980's 15C that I was given. *lol* that's what present-day Chinese-made vs. USA (1980's) is all about. |
