Stuck during set up. (COM1 setup)

I bought the cable from One Stop Electronics and followed all of the steps up to #9: I don't have a COM1 port to click on.

Can anyone assist via Google Talk or Skype or even in this thread?

This is where I'm at now:

9. This will open device manager.
a. Go to PORTS> double click on com1 > port settings tab > advanced
 b. Ensure “use fifo uffers” option is marked and receive buffers and transmit buffers are both set to 8. Once that is finished press ok and exit all windows.

Thanks. Is that all that needs to be changed in XP, leaving the other steps as only necessary in Vista+
