FRM modules compatibility BMW e90 pre-LCI Xenon?
I want to code my BMW 325i e90 2006-07 stock angel eyes as daytime running lights with the light switch in the "auto" mode, so that the Xenon lights only turn on when it becomes dark.
My car currently has a FRM1 module so I need to upgrade to FRM2 or FRM3. I've found the FRM2 modules at decent prices at some scrapyards here, but while anyway doing the upgrade I'd prefer to get a FRM3 module. Now the FRM2 modules I've found are "E87 E9x XE" modules which should be a perfect fit for my non-AHL Xenon lights I think? The FRM3 modules I find are all of the wrong type: "E90 E91 LED BASIS" Are these anyway compatible with my car? Can I reflash them so they work with my Xenon lights or must I find a "XE" FRM module? And to expand my search are any other model series FRM modules compatible? Are there any more compatibility issues to look out for? My car is built for Sweden so it has for example this in the VIN: S896A TAGFAHRLICHTSCHALTUNG Daytime driving lights |

For the cars 2005-2006, frm2 is best.
I had frm2 xe, frm2 ahl and frm3 xe. After trying all of those, frm2 fitted well with the car of 2005-2006 and gave me drls on even when the headlight switch is on position 0. HTH.

Interesting, what exactly worked better in the older FRM2 model vs the new FRM3 one?
And what controls what happens with the headlight switch in the different positions, is that maybe what S896A that I mentioned before changes the behavior of? As it is I'm fine with the "0" position meaning off, so long as I get to use the angel eyes as DRL's in the "Auto" mode |

I took a look at my current FRM module.
It is a: E9X-E8xCA-XE PL2 FRMA module. What is the significance of the "CA-XE" part? Can I get whatever FRM2 or FRM3 module I find working fine or does it need to be a "CA-XE" FRM2 or FRM3 module? |

Found a module now with this marking: E87 E92 E93 XE
How can this be, so many different module markings? Is the one I found really incompatible with the E90 & E91 then? And the one I have in my E90 would then work in a E91, E92, E93 and all E8x series too? This is too confusing! |

I would like to know as well. Looking to upgrade to FRM2 as well from FRM1. (Xenon and front fogs).
But there really are a lot of different versions around. So what are the differences. E9X-E8x CA-NSW PL2 (probably no xenon support?) E8X NSW PL2 FRM IL (probably no xenon support?) E9X-E8x CA-XE PL2 FRMFA E87 E9x XE PL2 FRMFA E87 E9X XE PL2 FRM IL E89 E9X LED AHL PL2 FRM IL And whats the difference between the FRMFA and FRM IL coding... |

But there are 3 of these as well... E9X-E8x CA-XE PL2 FRMFA E87 E9x XE PL2 FRMFA E87 E9X XE PL2 FRM IL So what are the differences for the CA-XE or XE and the FA or IL versions. IL probably has something to do with LEDs ? Any idea if there are software incompatibilities ? Because you need to change the production date to >0307, but the car was never updated in it's lifetime since production in 0206. So i'm wondering if you should have at least software from 0307 or newer for the frm2 module to be fully functional ? |

For your information FRFMA is FRM1, so don't waste your time on those. And here if FRM2 for sale.

Newer types of FRM is unnecessary unless you plan to do led tail light conversion and alike. The older you car is the more error canceling you may need to do to circumvent voltage cold/warm checking initiated by FRM module per wire circuitry. Many of conversions have been successful with trial and error. I recommend sticking with what you actually need for the conversion unless you are ready to fiddle with wiring and error canceling with limited knowledge.

Each module has its own software. If your car was never updated, you can still install and code FRM2. All you have to do is to change the production date to 03/07.

You could get the part numbers from realoem.com. Punch in your vin and look for the control module retrofits which would show frm2 and frm3.
