Engine Shake at idle after 30+ minutes of driving
Hi
I have an e93 328I with 75K on it. A few weeks back my car start shaking at idle and it throw a code of P0012. I research it and change the vanos Solenoid. The check engine light disppear and the car seem to be driving normally. Couple days ago I take it on a 45 minutes drive and then at the stop light the engine start shaking again but no error code and no light on the dash. The engine just shake and the idle is very rough. I stop the car and about an hour later came back and start the car and it drive normal like nothing happen. Today I drove an hour and the same thing happen again. It seem the short distance driving is normal but when I drive the car for a good 30+ minutes and then stop at a stoplight the car engine would shake and it idle roughly. I try to pull the code but there' no code showing up. Anyone has any idea? Thanks |

Cant really troubleshoot it without any type of code atleast in reliable way. My best suggestion is getting INPA and looking at dealer specific codes cause im sure those will show a problem somewhere pertaining to your shake. Here is program you need, also you'll need old laptop with win xp on it ideally and 2gb ram even though it says 1gb. Ebay
As far as giving you guess Id say look at your plugs and coils although that problem would be giving you misfire OBD II code. Maybe they are on verge of breaking? Idk. There is really alot that can cause rough idle.

I though some would have the same issue before I go that route. |

Ya before I had INPA, Thats route I went is coil/plugs. With your miles its very possible its the cause. Go for it and see what happens thats my best recommendation without codes.

Oh another thing you should try is run your tank near empty like maybe 10miles range left and find good nitrogen enriched whatever shell station. Ive noticed huge improvement in idle overall since ive been putting exclusively shell premium into mine.
Make sure you do full tank, because you always get 1-1 1/2 gallons of crap fuel from person before you most likely buying unleaded.
