Are you allowed to replace leather in a lease?
Random question... I know! Is it possible to replace the leather with all new leather on a leased vehicle? I don't want to run into any warranty problems when the car needs to go back. I'm not talking anything crazy custom just replacing venetian beige with a different color.
Thanks! |

Is it OEM? Then you shouldn't have a problem.
If it's not OEM, I have a feeling they wouldn't be able to notice, but technically speaking the vehicle is supposed to be returned in the fashion it was taken, so BMW has the right to charge you to replace it with an OEM part at lease end. |

No, you cannot replace all the leather, unless it's a repair, and in that case BMW would be doing it. Leased vehicles have a residual value based on the car's configuration when it is delivered. It's technically not your car, and if you change anything, you'll have to change it back when you turn the car in or face financial penalties. If you were buying the car, it'd be a whole different story, as you can do whatever you want because it's got your name on the title as the vehicle owner (along with the lien holder if you're financing it).
