ANY UPDATES FROM WAVETRAC LSD's OWNERS? *2013*
Hey,
Been doing a lot of searching on Quaife vs Wavetrac and everyone keeps going on and on about the Quaife's track record of being a reliable product.. But its been a year or so, and havent seen any new or updated threads about the Wavetrac.. Read a few threads about the clunking noise from the wavetrac but only one or two and wanted to see if that was a real concern or not. Wavetrack Owners: Was that just a install error? Are you happy with the Wavetrac? Any regrets? Overall any updates on which would be the better option.. Quaife or Wavetrac *Have 08 model so I would need the core exchange program with the Wavetrac or final drive option if going for the Quaife. And live in Canada where so driving conditions in snow are important. Thanks for your time!

I have had my wavetrac for nearly 3 years and it has over 30k miles on it and has worked great. I have had zero problem with it and I love it. Well worth the money.
And the clunk you have read about happens with both the wavetrac and quaife. I had it when I first got the diff and it slowly started going away. I rarely hear it make the sound anymore at all.

Thanks for the quick reply!
I think its time to pull the trigger and get a wavetrac very soon as the only argument I heard against it was Quaife's Reliability and proven track record, but as you say you've now had the lsd for nearly 3 years and no problems.. Thats what I wanna hear

I have had mine for about 8 months and 6,000 miles. Zero issues here. I think many of issues with the Wavetracs you see are stemmed by installation error.

Mine was bolted so I didn't need the install kit or core.
I abuse the hell out of mine as well, see below.

Wavetrack for a year now, absolutely no issues. Awesome product. Install must be done with attention to detail.

did you need the instal kit/core option? Seems like with the install kit/core option its a pretty simple install and a regular mechanic can do the job..

Wavetrac for 2 years and 20k and no problems at all and I don't baby the car. I heard about the clunk noise I never had it but I have an auto and was under the impression it occurred more with the MT. Great Mod right up there with a tune as far as most noticeable improvement . If I could recommend anything use motul gear oil recommended by wavetrac. I had redline 75/90 (no limited slip additive) in mine replaced it after 6k and put in Motul 300 and really noticed a difference a lot smoother and eaiser to control.

I've only had my wavetrac for about 3 months/2000 miles but I love it. I bought mine as a complete unit from HP autowerkes. No issues at all.

Just wanted to make sure, did you get the install kit + core exchange option?? That is what I will be ordering as I have an 08 and wanted to see how install goes for that.. Seems like a much easier install as the diff is already pre-installed into the rear differential assembly, so all you do is remove yours and install the new rear differential assembly. sounds pretty simple.

I have had the Wavetrac it in my car for about a year now, multiple road track days, multiple drag strip days....and not a single hitch.
I did have a clunk at first, but it turned out to be loose diff mount bolts that worked loose after I installed it...use loctite! The LSD itself is completely quiet and has completely transformed the car on the track. Oh and I used Redline 75w90NS fluid, no slip additives. |

It should be, but there are so many other little parts that you need to change. Drive shaft seals, nut, and some bolts. Do a search on the parts numbers for these.

Well, to be the lone dissenter, I have had plenty of problems with my Wavetrac:
Both 'Axle Flanges' have popped out multiple times. Wavetrac was unresponsive in offering to rectify the situation via warranty means. It was difficult to secure access to an engineer to work through the issue. Rick from DEFIV Fabrication ended up having to modify it so that they wouldn't pop out any more. I do drive harder than most
