I shut off the car and it turns on
Recently I have noticed randomly when I shut down my F30 the engine restarts.
Basically I put the car in park. Then I press the ignition switch once, which turns off the engine but the radio is still on, then I press a second time and usually everything goes off except in random situations the engine turns back on. Anyone know what is going on? |

You've been punk'd by BMW. The Start/Stop button does one of about eight different things when you press it, depending on the state of things you may not notice or even be able to see, like the Auto Start/Stop system, the electrical system, the brake pedal, the transmission selector, etc. If you haven't asphyxiated yourself and your family by mistakenly leaving the car in your garage with this button in the wrong state, count yourself lucky.

+1 on the brake! It happens...
ASS kicks in to punk you. You stop, car turns off, then you hit the button and it's like lets go. I forget the actual sequence of events but I've had it happen more than once. Foot off brake cures it though. |

Scenario:
- ASS on - drive and stop in your garage - car engine turns off thinking you're at the red light If you have an automatic : - letting go off the brake starts the car again... and boom! Or - turn off ASS and the car engine starts on... - keep foot on brake pedal and turn off car, but the cars turns back on?! If you have a manual: You have to be in neutral, Then let go of both clutch and brake, otherwise the car starts back on when you hit the of button.... don't worry if the radio and instrument cluster are still on after you turned off your car. go outside shut the door and press lock on your key fob or if you have CA just tap the door knob.
if the engine is still running it will warned you. I'm guessing this is your first bmw?

I think one of the issues is that you press the button once to turn the engine off and another to turn the electronics off but if your foot is on the brake then it starts back instead. You could as someone noted, just hit it once to turn the car off then walk away and the electronics will turn off after a few mins. Not that big of a deal if you understand what the system is doing but it'll catch you every now and again if you're not paying attention. |

You can have code switch changed so that iDrive shuts down when the door is opened. No need then to punch the ignition button twice. I'm having that done to our f30.

You can also code to eliminate the double door pull when the car auto-locks. I've coded that for a lot of people too. |

With the auto tranny, you don't even have to put the car in park. It will do that automatically when you turn off the ignition.
1. Pull into spot. 2. Engine turns off when you come to a stop. 3. Keeping foot on the brake, press the Start/Stop button once. Car goes into P and ignition turns off. 4. Take foot off brake. 5. Either press start/stop again to stop radio or just lock the car. I've noticed something else. Let's say you just want to get out of the car for a short time and don't want to turn the car off. 1. Pull in to spot. 2. Engine turns off when you come to a stop. 3. Press the park button. 4. Get out of car... notice you never turned the car "off". 5. Leave the car. Do whatever. Get back in. 6. Notice that now the ignition is off even though you never hit the Start/Stop button. At least that's what it does on my 650i. |

Do you mean that it eliminates the double pull even if the doors are still locked? If so, I'd love to know what you need to code for that as it confuses the hell of my passengers sometimes.

Once I turned off the car in the parking, went to eat my lunch in a very warm day, got back to the car, open it , and the car was cold! It did not really turned off , I left it with the engine on for 2 hours + air coditioning !
