New E63 AMG vs SLI M5

I'm thinking of trading my GC with either of these cars and was wondering if anyone have tried both cars and can give me their inputs on how these cars drive.

I'm looking for performance comparisons and not how the car looks.

LCI M5, performance comparisons are actually quite simple. RWD VS AWD, Both have similar power. The M5 will be more up top, E63 will get off the line better.

The new E63 will beat the M5 up to 100mph and over. It won't matter that its AWD it'll have plenty of horsepower and torque to make up for it

yes, but looks and character count. m5 wins those hands down. faster from a dig is nice too, but the e63 will be the equivalent of a butterface.

From initial tests in mags (I know I know but its a point of reference) the trap speeds are similiar to the non AWD M157 cars. I still like the S63TU in rolling races because of the transmission (60 to 160 style).

The dig blasts are going to be amazing with the AMG's.

One thing that kills it for me, is just the styling of the E63's. Can't get past both the looks on the outside and on the inside. However, I still think the front end design on the 2012 CLS63 is one of the best I've ever seen, but they totally negated it with the ugly rear end on that car.

I just can't wait to race a new 2014 E63 and see the results, rolling race only though, like Vic said.

Is the 2014 a full redo - or a facelift?

E63 is fugly...would look at CLS63 instead. It will be interesting to see how the AWD performs from a roll.

DSG will be much more superior in terms of driving experience IMO.

Are the new E63's out in the wild yet? If so, I'm sure we'll be seeing a race from our friends somewhere in the Middle East soon enough.

LCI doesn't matter - it's the same car - unless the LCI M5 has the CP.

Agree. I suspect it is a poor render as it is from a site called Virtuel Car ....

Retro grille opening

Wow!!!! I just responded to the butterface before I took a good look and studied the front end. Horrendous - a cross between some bad early Ferrari experiment, face-pulling and too much botox in general.. The front end alone should cause it to be slapped more than a few time just in principle.

If they're using the same transmission then don't do it! I had a chance to drive it at a two day AMG Academy, and reaction time to manual shifts (I was setup for the quickest shift speed settings) are slow as heck. I have no idea how caranddriver rated it higher than the M5.

Agreed. Manual mode is very slow; however, S+ mode is respectable. Love those downshifts!

I tried S+ as well, but found that it didn't hold the right gear too often, and the car would loose boost pressure and have inconsistent throttle control mid-corners (since it would suddenly decide to downshift, or hold a gear too long). Probably not an issue if you're using it as a DD only, but on the track, you can definitely feel it. If there's a manual transmission option, then there's no problem.
