Terra or Terrible?

What's up with this? Here is a real life Terra pic and the Terra as seen on BMWUSA.com in the build your own section. Is it really that hard to get the color palette right on the web site? Other examples: Olivin Green and Silver Grey on the E60 look so different in reality then on the web-site. I don't get it.

Hi!

99% of all terra pics on the web don't matcgh the real color, because of sunlight, flashlight or wrong white balance setting of the digital camera. i have seen terra in realitiy before ordering, and it is very dark in real life.
these are the only two terra pics which come close to the real tone:

Configurator is close to real!

best regards - dr.sommer

I think the flash is partly responsible for making terra look like tango (orangey). On some of the pics where flash has not been used, it looks ok. But I'm still not a big fan of terra.

I love the Terra and I think over time it will wear very nicely. That picture does make it look very orange like the interior of the X3. It is more like the color of a football.

in the flesh

To all those thinking about Terra, I was one of the biggest detractors of this color, but I saw it in person quite extensively. It looks very different in the sun and in the dark, and it is truly surprising. Dark, nice, different. Lot of dark reds, looks like a dark terracotta. My 2 points are: you should absolutely see it before you order it, and it is a real surpise. A one-of-a-kind and very classic, especially with black ext. I was surprised and would probably get it if I were getting an e90. Also, ask Jason what he thinks. He's the guru.

Drive fast.

I saw it with Electric Red and I almost crapped my pants it looked so good!

It definitely made me think twice about my TiSilver Black combo I ordered.

I do agree that it looks similar to an American Football.

It isn't as brown as Dr. Summer's pics either. There is some orange to it.

Terra successfully evades all attempts to be photographed or described realisticly.

It simply has to bee seen.

I´ve seen it IRL and after seeing it ordered it.

Yes

xspeedy:

You are correct. Think Wilson football. Dark orange withg some brown in there somewhere. Football description fits the texture of the leather as well.

Minus the laces of course.

I saw a sapphire black 330i with terra interior and it was absolutely stunning. I saw none of the orange that appears in some photos. It was very rich in appearance. If I could go with a black car, this is the interior I would pick, but I'm trying to stay away from dark exterior colors as I live in the South and the darker cars get too hot in the warmer months. Any thoughts about terra with silver or another lighter color? Anyone seen or have photos of terra with lighter exterior colors?

I have on order this combination: TiAg/Terra/Aluminum.
I think it is a pretty sporty combination, the key for me is the aluminum trim to tie together the interior and exterior.
Anyone seen this underrated combination in real life?

I have a friend that owns an Audi A6 that's dark green with leather that is pretty similar to Terra. Pretty cool looking....but something about it makes me think that's it's not as cool as Silver/Terra or White/Terra. Don't know what it is.

I've seen terra a couple times in cars. I agree that the color is very much like a football--a really apt comparison. Terra is perhaps a tad lighter and oranger than a football (went and looked at my Wilson). However, the texture of terra is not like a pigskin football. Pigskin is a pattern of roundish polygons all pushed together whereas leather from a cow has lines that crisscross diagonally. But the terra color certainly looks more like a football than many of the pictures taken with flash you see here. I can also confirm that there were no laces.

Right

Well put Athos. When I first saw Terra in the flesh I was intrigued, but I thought it looked too much like mud red clay. But the more I stared at it, the more classical and beautiful it looked. I must admit, I am now a big fan. Best e90 leather color out there, especially as a two-tone. And no laces (thank God).

Drive fast.

I saw a Terra interior today in person for the first time. I was very impressed. It went from dead last on my list to either 1 or 2. If you want a dark interior, Terra is the way to go for sure. Drove a Jet Black/Terra/Walnut 330i today and it looked excellent. I'm getting Mystic Blue for the exterior so I'm on the fence between Grey and Terra. The Grey is classy. The Terra is classy and different, but I just don't know if the novelty of Terra will wear off.

I sat in an Arctic 325 with grey leather and aluminum trim and I liked it a lot. I'm not a big grey fan but with the aluminum it was a very "happy" or "uplifting" color combo. I always go for black/alum inside but I think the lighter colors and the alum make the cabin brighter and therefore larger.

Hi Flee67,

I have seen this combo in real life. A 330 with that spec is standing just near by my home. I have studied it for like 10 minutes, and it looks just great!

The reason why I went with silver/black/alu was just a bit of feer that I would get tired of the terra, but it looks just awsome!

Regards

Jörgen
