Any estimates on 328d US mpg?

Just wondering what the 320d (euro market) and the 328d US market differences may be.

Can we expect similar mpg from the 328d? I figure that may be somewhere around 40-45 mpg. I could be totally off

Anyone has estimated numbers?

Thanks!

I had an F30 320d as a loaner one year ago, it was a manual. No matter how hard I was pushing it I never got less than 37 mpg (US), calculated at fillup.

And thatīs really impressive, cause I killed that engine. Seriously, floored it whenever I wanted to move forward. Cause I hated it. Beat the shit out of it and it only had like 30 miles on the ODO. I just wanted to get back to my old manual 320i E90 with 170hp, cause it was more fun to drive despite less power. The diesel was so rough I got stressed every morning when starting it up... omfg Im getting stressed right now writing about it. Did I say I hated it?....

If you drive a lot and donīt care bout performance or enjoying spirited drives and you are just out for mileage, then this is for you. But remember, diesel engines are more expensive when it comes to maintenance so if your not leasing then think twice about it. Otherwise, get the 320i or up. Gasoline engines in general are just more fun, simple as that. And donīt say anything bout torque, cause that torque advantage the 320d has on the 320i still doesnt help it get better 0-60 numbers.

Mileage is overrated.

Iīm sorry if I offended anyone... But itīs your fault you bought it.

I tried a VW Scirocco with the 170hp diesel in the UK and it was fun enough

It also achieved 60 US mpg doing 80mph from Paris to London

I think 40-45 US MPG Highway is a reasonable estimate.

The Passat TDI is rated at 43 MPG Highway with a 140-hp / 236lb-ft 2.0 liter.
The Cruze Diesel is rated at 46 MPG Highway with a 151-hp / 280 lb-ft 2.0 liter.

The US 328d is also a 2.0 liter with 180-hp / 280 lb-ft. It probably weighs a tad more than the Cruze but it's also helped by the 8 speed vs 6 with the other two.

I'm expecting 50+ real world.... EPA around 45. EURO numbers are alot higher. I already read a short review on the rear wheel drive F30 and at at constant 65MPH they were reading over 60MPG. But that was a short drive. (BMW didn't give them the car for a full test)

Sorry, It was 60 MPH.....Here is the article----

Downhill with tailwind heading out and uphill with headwind heading back. 52.4 mpgUS average from gallons consumed over the total 15 miles.

2014 BMW 328d Early Conclusions

While this is just an early preview, the improvement in ride quality with the standard all-season 17’s vs. low profile 18’s we usually drive BMWs with is significant. In other words, “possibly” skip the Sport package if you can do without the extras.

Seating was pure BMW. More bolstering than most yet the soft seating surfaces and extendable lower seat cushion for the taller drivers among us makes the 328d a long distance driver without concern.

Infotainment wise, with only minutes behind the wheel, the audio system and high resolution display(s) are pure BMW. Meaning they are really really good as expected. We’ll go much deeper when we get some real time behind the wheel hopefully later this year.

And again since this is only a preview, the 60 mph steady state fuel economy results as experienced on this cool spring morning in late March indicate BMW has provided a good one. Just wait until we throw some techniques at this bad boy as I suspect 60 mpg will fall without batting an eye and even 70 mpg may be possible in warmer temps. We will have to wait and see but right now, a low 7 second car with an easy 60 + mpg capability is unheard of!

As usual, I cannot wait to get some more time behind the wheel to compare the 17 and 18 in wheel options, various trims and appointments, experience the latest BMW ConnectedDrive infotainment, and perform some empty parking lot accident avoidance and braking maneuvers. I suspect that a longer term drive will reveal similar results. Namely BMW has added European “Super Diesel” efficiency to its well received 3-Series platform and that in and of itself is a very good reason to consider one. With its sharp looking design, superb ride and handling, and upscale luxury appointments, any manufacturer offering a sports sedan in the $30 to $40K range had better step up or be prepared get run over because this one is coming in like a loaded freight train.

Final pricing, trims, package and option availability, and specifications will be available closer to release with all three 2014 BMW 328d variants (sedan, sedan with xDrive and Wagon) arriving in US showrooms this fall.

Thank you guys for such great feedback. Looks like a winner to me, but I just considering my option for a lease. Looking great so far by numbers but I can't test drive before I order

Here's a copy of the app I use to keep a log of fuel usage, etc on my cars. It's for Australia so the usage is in liters/kilometer - getting around 1000 km's per fill on regular city driving.

Well, as long as the tractor sound is masked it is ok. But in this one, it is NOT.

People fucking complain about the sounds from the new gasoline engines but wait til you hear this one; sounds like a woodpecker getting raped by a humming bird.
