Computer Re Set E90
Whilst browsing,I'm sure I saw a post that said that you could do a complete re set of the ECU by taking out the battery and then joining the battery + and - leads together and leaving for a few hours to drain the capacitors.
Anybody confirm this ?

Never heard of it.
If you disconnect the negative terminal for 30 minutes, it should reset most of the module (but will not delete the error codes).
