F10 M5 steering rack?
I'm getting a lot of sound from the hydraulic steering when doing lock-to-lock steering, for example when pulling out of a parking space
Is this normal for the M5? Any of you guys have this issue? I currently have 150 miles on it, should i tell my dealer now or at the 1200 mile service?

Dude I have the same problem from day one! It shudders during low speed normal parking lot maneuvers.....I don't have to go full left or right to get it to do it...just every where in between. I have an appointment next week to get it looked at. |

Have you had a chance to get the dealer to look at the shudder issue during low speed? I've got the same issue, I took my M5 for the 15K service and asked them to look at the shudder, as well as the clicking noise I'm getting up front. They couldn't find an issue and asked I schedule back to have them take a closer look. I think they want to take out the strut and inspect. |

UPDATE:
Took my car into service for the ticking noise from the front left wheel and the shudder at slow speeds. Turns out that they are replacing my steering pump, left front strut with the hub/bearings/knuckle. They've ordered the parts, hopefully I'll have my car next week. This is crazy when you think about it. My car has 15K on the clock and has been driven normally. |

ufgtrs2007 I have not had a chance to take the car in. Between my work schedule and the nearest stealership being hour and a half away makes it extremely difficult to get the car into service. I will report back when I do. Please keep us in the loop if the replacement of your power steering pump resolves "our" problem or not.

Dealer had to put a power steering pump on order...one in the entire country was found...going to be installed this Friday. I will let everyone know if it fixes my problem.

yes, I notice the same issue and also with a metal clicking noise while turning at very low speed (e.g. pulling out of a parking stall or reverse in)

I've experienced the shudder when backing out of Parking spot as well. Took it to the dealer and they found nothing wrong. Please keep us all posted.

For me, *when* I can get the shudder to occur, here are my observations: 1) it isn't at full lock but close to 85% lock 2) it can happen both in forward and reverse 3) only at exceptionally low speeds like pulling out of a parking space or swinging into my garage. 4) can never produce it on a rainy day when the asphalt is wet. 5) can never reproduce after a few minutes driving time. 6) can never reproduce at "driving" speed. Dealer checked the suspension and steering components and was confident enough to leave a voice mail saying it was "safe" and they couldn't reproduce. But, otherwise they were not able to reproduce (and it was a rainy day). I have an open invitation to stop in without an appointment for a ride along with the same tech if I can reproduce it. That being said, my dealership location essentially invalidates the effort due to "5" above as it is a good ways from my home and work. |

Every now and then I have the same problem. It only happens when turning to the left. I need to take it in also to see if it is a pump issue. Other than that the car drives great.

I have the same. I have had this on past cars but just expected more from BMW. RPM will jump too at end position as the pump is working harder I guess.

UPDATE on my situation: Dealership is installing new steering rack, pump, and hoses. I wonder if I'll get the mid-year 2013 updated steering rack now?? Anyone know?
