Sport displays should be on the HUD

What's the point of being on a screen you can't look at when accelerating hard. Yes it leaves the bookmark but it would be good to see them real time

Fail BMW, big time fail

Keep in mind the displays are measuring nothing. They display the same each time for a given throttle setting and RPM. Briefly amusing but of no actual value.

For me, the HUD needs RPM and, for the AT, gear indicator.

A G-meter, such as in the Corvette, and oil temp would be nice as well.

Interesting. Yesterday I had noticed that beyond 75 mph full throttle will not give you max tq. Below that you will get to full tq with full throttle. I thought that made sense.

I guess this is where we can look at the theories behind hp/tq.

I have no idea what is going on behind those meters but there are amusing

+1 Give me RPM and I'd be happy. The sport displays aren't even accurate.

Don't the M cars HUD have rpm?

I would like a shift timer in the hud like in F1. That would be awesome on an M car.

Yes. My M6 does, but it's not entirely accurate. You have to learn where on the RPM meter to shift right before redline, because the HUD lags.

Fail BMW, big time fail
the bigger fail is that the Sport Display power meters are fake preprogrammed values depending on tps

What's tps, throttle position sensor?

If that is the case, I ask you to keep an open mind in this. Full throttle at high speeds (around 70 mph) will not give you full tq on the sports display. Full throttle at lower speeds will give you full tq.

I agree it's preprogrammed but I think there was more thought given to the displays than throttle position. Maybe others can chime in with their observations so we can get a clearer picture

Possibly there more variables than just tps alone, but really theres no point dwelling on it. Its just a cheesy gimmick. I can make 300nm of torque at 4000rpm the sport display will show half that

When u get tuned you will know. At the same rpm ur making more power you can feel it but the display reads the same before u were tuned

I see. I am still getting more information myself. It is a gimmick I agree but I wonder how good of a gimmick it is, within the 300/300 or 320/332 (at) set up.

Real drivers don't need RPM, they listen.

It depends on what they are using the display for.

It is easy to know when a shift can be made up or down. An experienced MT driver gives this no thought.

However, if you are seeking maximum performance drag racing and have calculated your shift points for each gear, you want a reference for your RPM range during a corner and corner exit, etc. it is useful to have the gauge.

Besides, the average "real" driver would have an absolute fit if BMW deleted the RPM gauge entirely. I can only imagine the howls of protest.
