N20 owners

If any of your guys care or are interested. We ordered an N20 core last week and should have it soon. Gonna be taking it apart and see whats in there and see if an upgrade would be helpful at all. I don't think the market is here for this yet. But I think BMW is going to end up selling a lot of these so we will get a jump on it.

Core just came in. Don't have it apart yet but with a quick inspection it is basically a mini version of the N55 turbo, reverse rotation, twin scroll, electronic diverter valve. It does have some changes, plastic wastegate actuator housing for one. I can also tell you the compressor wheel is TINY. It looks like a reverse rotation stock N54 wheel. The turbine wheel looks pretty good actually. This thing might be a good candidate for a stage 1 style upgrade. When I get it apart I will let you guys know more. Sticky as far as where I got it. I never reveal my sources...Click here to enlarge

Nice work tony! I just came from a E90 N55 and have been jealous of your work over there. I would love a stage 1 upgrade that would add some pop to this engine.

The problem right now is cores. The cars are so new there are not many floating around. What I am going to do is buy the parts needed for the stage 1 and we will have to do a send in and upgrade program with a guarantee of 1 day turnaround. I will be posting pricing in the next week or so.

Not sure you are understanding what I just said. The problem is, there are no cores to be had at this point. I got lucky getting this one. The way a refundable core program works is, we buy cores and build the turbos, charge you for the core until you send us yours. We can't buy cores. Hence my post above about not being able to get cores and for right now only being able to do the send in and upgrade method until they become available.

I'm glad to see people investing in this platform. Makes sense because between the 328i and 320i there should be a huge market in a few years. One that will dwarf the 335i one.

hi I am not familiar with turbo tuning. What would be the benefit of a fan? More psi? If so, cant we just boos this with a piggy back? Or would this be a safer approach to get volume without the need for increasing psi?

You reach a point where the turbo has run out of its range and huffing. You can put a tune in for 30psi but it means nothing if your turbo can't produce more than 20.

But if you upgrade the turbo and provide proper fuel and air with a good tune, you have to look at the intercooler and any other bottle neck. Also know one knows how much power the stock rods and pistons can take. I hope 400whp is attainable on stock internals.
