Parking Assistant - Worth $500?

I use the radar PDC all the time and find it very useful - but what about Parking Assistant? How cool is that? Worth $500? I almost just want to get it because I'm addicted to tech and it seems awesome. Maybe good for resell?

Save your money, I've used it 3 times but only to show family how it works. It's a cool feature but one you'll never use

No I don't but it's so cool! You're right though, the only time I'd use it is when I'm showing off or visiting a friend in the city which may be twice a year.

It's an option for people who didn't learn how to drive properly, which includes parallel parking. Save your money, unless you're handicapped, in which case it makes a lot of sense. But aside from that, it seems out of place in the "ultimate driving machine".

Check out this info from the manufacturer site

Quote:
At a speed of up to 35 km/h, ultrasonic sensors in the side of the front wheel arch search for a suitable parking space (vehicle length plus approx. 1.5 metres),
http://www.bmw.com/com/en/newvehicle...stant.html#t=l

I think it is a cool feature but a parking spot that is 4.5 feet longer than the car is a pretty good size spot. Seems like this feature will only assist you for the spots where you need the least assistance.

Money no object, I'd like to have it but configuring on a budget (i.e. my reality) I'd pass

I didn't get it because this bothered me:

Curbs
The parking assistant may steer the vehi‐ cle over or onto curbs.
Therefore, always be alert and ready to inter‐ vene; otherwise, the wheels, tires, or the vehicle may become damaged.◀

I use mine 4-5 times a week at least. Works perfect every time, and is pretty convenient.

And before you haters start trolling, yes I actually know how to parallel park.

Honestly with the birds eye view camera, parallel parking couldn't be easier, and I don't think the parking assistant would really make that much of a difference on top. In top down view there is a line indicating where your front wheels will travel, and lining that up with the curb is all you need to do to park.

I don't have the Driver Assistance Package with the side camera but my thought is that this option might help the challenged keep their wheels pristine (vs just the mirror turndown which helps but isn't amazing).

Maybe someone with this option can let us know if they actually use it to view the side curb. In LA I am always parallel parking, always need to tuck close to curb with narrow residential streets (and fold mirrors), and the curbs vary in size but are always nice sharp 4" or higher edges that will take down your mint right side wheels fast if you get lazy.
