Canadian dollar on the rise.

The Canadian dollar has been steadily catching up to us here in States, perhaps its time to cross the boarder and buy a M3 here?

Do you think this will affect our (U.S.) price for the M3?

lol dude. There is 15% tax in Canada. You go ahead and cross the border to buy an M3.
And the Canadian dollar hasn't steadily caught up to us- today the exchange between the American and Canadian dollar was exactly the same. 1 American dollar for one Canadian dollar.

It absolutely will. The USD is also getting hammered against the Euro as well. So there is no question that as each month goes by and the USD weakens vs the Euro that the cost in USD is going up for solely this reason. Just a rough estimate probably an increase of at least 10% just over the past 6 months.

All this means is that it makes more sense for Canadians to buy US cars. BMW offers a full warranty in Canada on US bought cars, you just lose the 4 years maintenance. Sounds bad until you look at the price difference. A US 335i is base $40k, a Canadian 335i is base $51k. There will easily be a $20k diff in the price of a US M3 compared to a Canadian M3. Add the import fees and the cost of 4 years of maintenance and you still save over 10k. I hope the guys in Buffalo are ready for me.

Thank you GWB for overspending to the extent that we don't have adequate collateral anymore.

But maybe Iraq will be worth it in the long run, thats what my ultra conservative roommate says.

Either way we are in a bind right now, and its sad to see our dollar dip so low...

Iraq is a great example of ONE of the MANY fiscal irresponsibilities of this administration. But thats neither here nor there.

I'll certainly be looking south of the border for my next BMW. And to think 4 years ago the exchange rate was 1.65 CDN to 1 US.....

What do I have to go through to have BMW Canada honor the warranty? If they tell me I have to change instrument cluster or other BS like that what should I do? Thanks in advance
