Steering Feel -- One Man's Opinion

A couple weeks ago I traded a 2011 335xi MSport for a 2013 335xi MSport with DHP.

I remember driving to the dealer on some roads with large indentations (heavy sitting traffic during rush hour) at speed and being pulled all over as my 18s with low profile tires were finding every groove. Yes, the steering was precise but I felt like I was fighting the car all the time. The E90 had tons of steering "feel" but was very heavy in retrospect.

My first impression of the F30 was that it was too light even in sport mode. I was surprised by the tighter turning radius and the ease with which I could zoom around traffic and objects at low speeds. I wasn't sure that I liked it.

Well, two weeks in and I love it. I've come to the conclusion that all of the road feel of my past BMWs (E90 335 and 2008 135 Sport) is there but the "work" isn't. The ease of steering allows me to point the car at my target and go. I can worry a bit more about gearing and RPMs and less about tugging (and staying firm) through corners.

Perceptions are funny. I had a '11 328 for 3 weeks as a loaner. The only thing that came close to my 335i WAS the steering. Everything else was blah.

Well at least you are happy. I still say that the F30 generally feels moe like a MB than a Bimmer.

Another man's opinion....

I agree. There is a stretch of road my E90 328i used to "tramline" on really badly. My F30 doesn't waver at all.

With DHP the car feels really light on its feet, very tossable. Point and shoot
