Seatbelt extender clip

My seatbelt extenders have never worked since I owned the car. The problem is the clip that is supposed to "spring" out and grab the belt doesn't flip out far enough. I can make it flip it out far enough if i flick it with my finger right before it reaches the seatbelt and then it works.

Has anyone else had this problem? Anyway to fix this? Make the clip fully come out?

My driver has the same issue. It doesn't "catch" the seatbelt correctly and it just falls off. Pain the ass!
