CPS Lip Failure - Fabricated Reinforcement

Cliffs- installed CPS lip. looks great, but tore-off at ~120mph. The OEM bolts are not strong enough to hold up to the downforce at speed (especially when braking).

I bought a second one and crafted a sheet metal support covering nearly the entire bottom of the lip.

I had several revisions, and ended up with the below. I have four large gauge bolts holding the lip in place as any screws I used would get pulled-out eventually. This setup is rock solid.

I've since plastidipped the lip, covering any rust/scrapes.

More damage. You can see where the bolt were torn away from the fiberglass underside of the lip. If the lip was all CF (beyond just the front, visible side), I wonder if it would be much stronger.

I guess its better if used with 10 screws instead of 8.

my problem was that the bolts didnt come off but the 3M tape didnt adhere strong enough to my bumper. The downforce of the wind pulled the lip down to detach from the tape. How much tape did you use?

I used tape along the entire edge, but it wasn't enough. Now that I've used bolts (including those two in the front which are not in factory locations), it cannot separate from the bumper cover. Of you move the lip the entire bumper cover flexes now.

I'm glad I didn't buy the $800 Akrym (sp) one or I'd have shed a year when it broke.

I did...bought the Arkym and shed a tear! The worst part, I did not do the damage. I did get some compensation so I don't feel as bad anymore.

the pic of the crack is understated. The bottom took the brunt of the impact
