Exclamation 7-speed M-DCT Debut in M3!

According to "Leftlanenews" the M-DCT 7 speed tranny will debut in the M3 sedan at either Los Angeles or Detroit..........

The report cited the shift lever will be similar in style to the X5/E60.

Opinions?

That shift lever is fugly and will look very out of place in an M3.

Not completely out of the question but I suspect there is a lot of speculation on the part of "leftlanenews".

Hmm... M-DCT should be awesome if there are no bugs in it. I am pretty sure I will be going with 6MT myself...

I was set on the MT early on, then thought the M-DCT might be cool, but kinda gun-shy about pulling the trigger on a first year car AND on a brand new tranny. I expect issues with the first year car but coupled with the growing pains of new technology in a brand new tranny have pretty much made up my mind.
MT will be fun as well.

I have the same concerns but on top of that I can see MDCT being an expensive option that just wont be worth the price to me.

Plus, I can see the reviews now saying things like, MDCT just further complicates the Mdrive settings or just further removes the driver from the experience....

Either way I think 6MT is the way to go.....

Actually, you got the public date for the LA show, and the press date for the Detriot show. LA press day is the 14th, Detroit public date is the 19th (16th for industry preview).

Add me in - MT is the only way to go! And it amazes me the number of people that complain about M3s being too tech laden then sit out waiting for M-DCT! Go figure.

Hey 6MT people:

Have you sat in an M3 and tried it? I don't know how M-DCT will be but I have tried 6MT. I it feels clumsy and imprecise, not exactly what I expect from an M car. Even the standard 6MT of my Z4 feels way better! So I'm not so sure if 6MT is the way to go...

Manual, even if it's clunky is always better.
