Plasti Dip interior trim

So, I had a huge crack in my faux wood trim and I couldnt take looking at it anymore so I took some Plasti Dip and turned it black... I cannot decide if I like the flat blk look or the piano blk trim.... I am starting to like the Flat more and more.. if I decide I can always peel it off and have them painted.. I had to redo the main trim with the vents like 3 times to get it right.. In the pick with the center piece, its not redone so you can see some issues... The 3 pic from the side its redone and perfect..

Tell me what you think!

I think a gloss black would look better

I know... the piano black is my first choice but I just dropped it an inch and put koni yellows on it changed the control arms, changed the angel eyes to LED and changed out the fog lights.... Having it professionally painted wasnt on my to do list but that damn crack was driving me crazy and I dont mind the flat look untill I have the trim all painted.

Plastidipped trim is kind of ghetto, and the rubber texture on the interior wouldn't feel right, gloss black is classier. Consider wrapping the trim, looks amazing and isn't expensive.

I was afraid of looking at the pics after opening this post as plasti-dip should NEVER belong in the interior but not bad. Not bad at all!

Yeah its fake wood.. Ive seen it cracked through.. its surprisingly good quality but still plastic... I know that when you think of the interior, you dont think plasti dip but its not bad and the flat look is pretty cool... anyhow its way better then the stupid crack that made the car look like a cheap piece of crap.

i was gunna say no, but when i think about it. its actually pretty good idea.

plastipdip will stay on, will have a clean finish, doesnt bubble up or fade to much.

plus its cheaper and probably alot easier to do.

You're almost correct. It is, in fact, real wood, but it's a veneer overlaid on a plastic substrate and then clear-coated for protection. Even Rolls Royce and Bentley uses veneers.

Doesn't look too bad, maybe it'll look better with a coat or two of clear coat? I'm pretty sure plastidip still comes off clean with clear coat on top.

It does, use some spray goo gone, let it soak overnight and it peels off next morning

Not bad at all! Don't do clear though... Plastidip makes a glossifier, much eaiser removal

I was very scared to see this picture after I opened the thread but not too bad! Although for me personally, it would probably only be a temporary solution - piano black is much better.

I'd rather wrap with a vinyl wrap. That looks cheap.

From the pics it looks Ok, good job, but my opinion, Bimmers deserve better than that.

Definitely this.

I'm always so torn how I feel about plasti-dip. On the one hand, it just feels like it should be tacky and shitty and unbecoming of a nice car. But on the other hand, if you do it right, results are really good. And I feel the same way (first part) about vinyl, which has the added detractor that it costs more than $5.

I'm torn as to how I feel about it here too, but from the minimal pictures my impression is good. Better than cracked. If I were going to redo my interior trim though, I'd only ever go CF (short of damage, I'd probably try this too if I had a crack, why not?)

I will say this: I dipped my wheels 3 months ago and for the half-day of work and $15 in dip, they look great and have held up even better. Bonus, with tire shine, the entire thing looks STELLAR. Dip really is amazing stuff.

My buddy builds stereos and is amazing with CF... We have been talking about doing a real CF solution or taking it to a professional auto paint shop... this is and always was a temp solution to that stupid crack.. My question is... Flat or High gloss.... Im 90% sure i'm going Piano black with a high gloss.... but the flat look is kinda growing on me. And then there is always real CF..... that could be cool too...

That stuff will not hold up long with all the traffic a center console gets. I'd be ready to just vinyl it
