Interested in a Low Cost Tow/Bike Rack Hitch?

EDIT See Page 2 for details

Updated 8/3 with pics and info:

So I got the hitch for $150 shipped and installed it today.

Installation was semi-complicated (compared to pure bolt on hitches) and required pulling the bumper off, but if you've worked on your car before it wasn't that bad. I did it start to finish in under 2 hours by myself. A second set of hands is highly recommended for helping to get the bumper back on, but I have long arms so I managed it by myself. Plus my bumper is scratched, so if I scratched it again I don't really care, it'll have to go to the body shop at some point soon. The fitment was great even with the Msport kit + PDC + 335i (Curt had only confirmed fitment on the standard bumper 328i). So this should fit the F30 and F31 without any issues. The 328d should be OK too but someone would have to look under their bumper to see if theres any reason why there would be a problem.

Aside from one cross threaded bolt on my bumper beam (from the factory) the installation went off without a hitch (budum*cha*)

You notice it, but compared to a hideous wind whistling roof rack or a paint destroying trunk rack, this is the way to go!

Worst "stage" of the install. Oh the humanity!

Hitch from far away, can't even see it in the shadow. Most people probably won't even notice its there if they aren't looking.

Closeup. Ignore my filthy bumper, scratch, and dirty tailpipes...the car wash was closed and my hose is broken.

Rack installed! Thule 2 bike wheel held fold up.

Hope that helps for anyone who's been looking!

I'd love a hitch for my 328. The BMW bike rack is hideous beyond words.

Thank's for the responses so far. Keep em coming. If they can confirm the fitment I'll post pics as soon as it's installed.

It's impossible to say for sure since the car isn't available in the US yet. The same would go for the 328d.

If they don't change the design from the rest of the F30 chassis, it might be ok, but you can't tell until you actually get a car to prove it on. The F31 does have a slightly longer wheelbase so its theoretically possible that some other dimension with the car has been tweaked.

I definitely want one, I like the clean look of the invisihitch but it is way too pricey. How much weight will it add? Will it be visible?
Thanks.

Weight I'm not sure about, but given the general size tubing these things use and the size I'd say maybe 20-30 lbs?

Yes it would be visible and sit below the bumper. But it's only a 1 1/4" receiver so it's pretty small and should fit pretty snug to the bumper. It's the tradeoff of not having to deal with a roof rack though and since it's black it's pretty obscure until you go to look for it.

How far it's protruding/recessed is TBD.

Ah, thought they weren't shipping till this summer. Hadn't seen any show up at my dealer yet or maybe they all just went straight to buyers.

If anyone has an F31 and can post pictures of the underside of the back end it would help.

I've been looking for a way to haul bikes as well. Definitely interested. Not sure if it will matter, but I'd be looking for a hitch on an xDrive M Sport.

So they are currently working on welding up the first round of hitches.

I was told that they typically only do a small first run, and then will wait a while to do the second one. If anyone is interested in pre-ordering one of the first batch, shoot me a PM for info.

Would love a hitch for F31 or F34 (not yet settled on what I'll get).

PM replied. Should have more info next week after the holiday weekend, but it should be several hundred dollars cheaper than the Invisi hitch.

Thanks for all the replies - I'm hoping to have more details next week after the holiday weekend. I'll see what I hear back from and post then.

I'll also see if there's enough interest if it's possible to do a group buy.
