SMG Paddle shifter retrofit question...

Hoping to do the retrofit to my e92 this weekend but have a question...

I bought the SMG shifters from eBay and the screws to mount them to the steering wheel from Fastenal but when I look into the mounting point on each shifter (hole next to the red wires in the pic), I can't find a nut at the bottom of the plastic barrel to screw the bolt into

Is it a case of me threading the barrel with the screw and being done with it? - the M5 screws I have seem too big to go in otherwise.

Hope this makes sense?
