Cobb Stage 1 race gas maps?
I am currently running the Stage 1 aggressive map all I have is a dual cone intake and the Cobb AP. So if I go to the track and throw in 5 gallons of MS109 are there any maps to take advantage of the race fuel? Or should I just go pump 93 for consistent runs I imagine running more boost without intercooler and downpipes would just heatsoak the motor.. Any advice?
Little pic below it's a 2007 Sparkling Graphite 6MT saddle brown interior I miss my old 335i though.. |

I would strongly advise you to not use the race mapping with a dci as your only mod, the advance and boost characteristics will not play nice with your motor. As you speculated, the OE downpipes and intercooler aren't up to the task, an enormous amount of heat and backpressure will build up. The race map requires a FBO car to be in pretty good shape to run well, so a more or less stock motor won't fair well. You could easily nuke your primary cats, or worse.
Edit: Great call with SB as the interior though!

That's a good point, but will the car be able to hit those timing targets on OE downpipes and intercooler? I'd imagine it will fall flat on its face quite quickly if the ambient temps aren't frosty.

Shouldn't be too much of a problem. You normally need to worry about that when you start playing with load targets (boost), as that will have an effect on IAT/backpressure. I'd say it's worth the OP giving it a shot, might as well take advantage of the octane

you can copy aggressive timing if you are running over 100 octane no problem.
With that said, at the track, you will quickly heat soak your intercooler and what happens is your DME will start pulling timing (based on IAT timing compensation tables), so basically you won't be hitting your timing targets anyway. If you are going for multiple laps, I suggest you run the race fuel anyway for consistency and to protect your engine. We tend to forget that one or two pulls on a highway are very different then the hell we put the engine through on a track.

Wait a second are you going for a drag strip or a closed loop track?

1/4 mile track, so from what I gather don't go beyond Stage 1 Aggressive. I live in FL so it will be hot out already. I will just save the money I would waste on race fuel and put that towards an intercooler. I just had my water pump and thermostat fail so there goes $1,200..

if ur worried about heat soak just bring one of these with some cold water water/rubbing alcohol mix and spray down the IC before each run - super cheap haha.

kindda causes surface rust after awhile. Use pure cold water for the same effect- the rust.
