e92 335xi as a trackcar and daily drive. Possibel?

Sorry for my bad english!

I have tried to search but dident find much.

My problem is that we now live central in Oslo(Norway). We want to buy a house outside the city and then we need a new car. The last years we have had 335i dct as DD and one trackcar with plates so I can drive it on the road when we need two cars. The trackcar is a supercharged e46 http://forum.e46fanatics.com/showthread.php?t=959969

the car is "not" possibel to drive in the winter. We have snow on the roads from november-april. Many days with 10-30cm of snow. That means this car is in winterstorage that periode. And then I "need" a third car...

when the winter is going on I take the 335 to the icetracks and have a blast! The 335dct are sold now. Then i can buy a cheaper family car, sell the m3 and put the rest of the money in a e92 335xi with manual. Then Jeppe and I can modify like we did to the m3. Skip the supercharger just drive it to ESS for a chip. 400hk and 550nm, but that is less than the e46....
From what I have heard HPF are working on a turbo kit, but that is a lot of money. It is mayby time for me to grow up so i dont thing I want to go there...

The 335 with xdrive is a heavy car and xdrive is not nessesary a good thing for the trackdays in the summer. That is what bugs me. But then againg the M3 is also heavy and not a hardcore tracktoy. The xdrive on the icetrack is a lot of fun.

If we set up the car with wide front tires and suspention that we could soften(kw v3) in front I hope understeer woldent be a problem. Agree? I am far from an expert so I am asking for advice.

I work with BMW so I have had two 335s, both with DCT and n55. I have had a lot of cars and the two 335s are the only cars i miss. If am starting this project it will be with a 2007/2008 n54. Do you think i will be happy? Will it be a ok track car? I know it isent the perfect tracktoy.

N54 with a tune and bolt ons will make 400whp, add meth and youll have 430-440whp. Im sure itll be as fas if not faster than the e46(didnt check out the build).
As for xdrive, thats up to you, I daily drive my i in canadian winters no problem.

The XI is not that much heavier, 250 lbs or so. I guess it depends on how far u want to take it. I'm only looking for a fun year round in NJ DD with 350plus WHP, no problem with my 09 XI JB4G5 ISO, DCI with secondary kittyless. I'm thinking with a FMIC and E85 I should easily be 375 WHP plus, that's a strong DD.

The e46 has a 500hp supercharger but less torqe and less weight. Regarding dd in the winter I have had one 2010 335 and one 2011. They where fine in the winter. I borrowed some wintertires to the e46 last winter. Just to deliver it to have some upgrades done. With the suspention on the softest it was a very bumpy ride. The tires also had no grip. That was with soft nothe europeen tires not high speed winter tires. What do you use in Canada? Do you take you car to the icetrack during the winter? With the xdrive it is more usabel during the winter, a lot of fun on the icetrack and hopefully fun during the summer.

jnat: For a lot of people 250lbs is a lot when it comes to a track car. And from what i understand the lbs are in the front of the car. The worst place to remove any weight! I am not sure how fare I want to take it.

I am thinking:
half cage(have had one crash and I was hopeing we wasent going to roll)
kw v3 ore the one with the app that can adjust bump and rebound.
powerflex and change the mounts. Will strip the car down so eay to change.
LSD
Stoptech breaks
Try to keep the performance seats from the e46

What would you do?

I found a guy who said this was needed.

so let's say you want to get some kick out of the car, you gotta put on:
GM intake (2k)
FMIC (1500)
PROcede (900- say used)
DP's (800)
Exhaust (1300 +/-)
Coilovers (1500 +/-)

Whats this?

Gm intake
FMIC
DP

ah some people give pretty terrible information.

GM intake is an overpriced CF intake. $75 dual cone intakes will net you the same power.
FMIC is front mount intercooler, can be had for around 500 used or look into Big Tom IC which is cheaper new.
DPs are straight downpipes that remove the catalysts which can be had for $300-400 new, look into VSRF or BMS downpipes.

Along with the bushings, KWs, and LSD, you might want to look into E92 M3 front control arms, front rear sways etc. A lot of M3 suspension parts are a direct swap to the 335 and make a world of difference.

For tuning since you will be tracking you will want to to get Cobb Accessport with either a Protune or use it with the BMS flash and JB4 tuning module for the extra features.

You will also want a short shift kit and new shift knob of course.

Thanks for info.
Insted of buying DB, could i remove the cats in the org system? Is that the same? Sorry I am a Noob!
FMIC should have known! Do I need a new oilcooler also?

Bushings, camber plates ++++ It all ads up, but it might be a good combo for me!

I need to build this car in excel and se how it ads up.

M3 front suspension components are not compatible on x drive....

If your going to track any 335, I recommend buying the oil pan windage tray a vendor just made. We've seen many 335 pop the motor tracking.

And buy class A parts...as it is your DD and you have snow in the winter... You need steal and coated DP's... I use my "track car" as DD and my rule is to only add parts that are par or better then what BMW did in terms of durability.

Do you have a link?

@rismo: I know, buy the best at first, that is cheaper in the long run.

How wide tires is possibel to have on the 335xi? With no modification to the body.

If somebody have advice about things, just post a link.

How longe is the downpipes? Can you go for the bms DP and the rest stock exhaust? I get god price one the akrapovic but i dont like the sound of it. Can I run dp and the BMW performance exhhaust?

Well for one thing, HPF is out of business. Second, I find my XI very pleasant to drive daily. Granted its not where you want to get yours to power-wise, but I find it just right. I leave near the mountains and have a house up there, and in the winter it handles like a champ.

For the windage tray/baffle

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=821626

Also make sure to have an oil cooler. Most of us xi owners were not lucky and were excluded.
