2012 F30 Quality Recalls
Hi There - just getting to grips with a March 2012 build F30 328ise!
Whilst chasing around trying to get the service inclusive package sorted out, I was told that there are 2 quality related recalls that the car has not had yet - which is surprising since the car was a BMW UK car and I also brought it from a BMW dealership! The first was one was related to the expansion tank and the second one was a corrosion prevention / protection issue she said!! Would this second one be the seat frame rusting issues that I have read about? Anyone else with a 2012 car that have had to have these done, if so when did the recall notice get issued - they need the car for a full day apparently?? Thanks |

Not sure if recall is the right phrase to use to be honest - I forget what the service advisor said verbatim, but it was something like quality improvements!!
Thanks for the reply and let me know what they say please. |

I had mine done last week, was told its not related to the ongoing seat corrosion issues in some 2012 built cars. Did you have any joy with your servic package? |

The corrosion prevention is to do with the battery. They apply some anti corrosion paint near the battery. Or something like that. Not a big deal. The other enhancement is a new sensor for the coolant tank. They also upgraded the software. Clinton your car is unique ! A 32i8se ? |

It comes up on their computer that these 'enhancements' need doing. It may be better to have the software update now rather than later. |

Contact your dealer and ask for the enhancements to be done now. |

Hehe Sorry about my typo - will correct it now.
Always typing too quickly. Now joy with the service package yet - I rang H J and they confirmed that the cost will be £650!! They said £450 if you take it out at the time of buying the car but after that £650 and you have to take it out before the first service is carried out!! |

'At the time of buying the car' does this mean when new or what about if the car is an AUC ? I bought from HJ, but they threw in the servicing package as part of the negotiations when I bought the 328 as an AUC. I'd push for the £450 cost. |

Mine's a 328i Lux' May 2012 build. About 2 months ago it had the FEM replaced and a software update while it was in for other work. These were both under the Service Improvement Plan or whatever it's called.
I have not had any work done with regard to battery corrosion or the expansion tank as far as I know. I do have rusty seat bases but am waiting for a suitable opportunity to get them done. Last time the car was in and they gave me a loaner it was a 116i so I am NOT in a hurry!

Excuse my ignorance but what is the FEM?
I will bring up the subject of the rusty seat frames when it goes in for the other 2 issues then, thanks guys. Clinton |

The driver's seat is rusty on my car, but not the passenger's seat.
Not bothering to get it fixed. I've read too many horror stories( on the USA website )about damage as the tech takes the seat out. Not worth the stress. |

If an AUC then the £650 applies!! Yes, going to push for £450 with the dealer - never thought about that when brokering a deal - DOH!! Got a reasonable deal anyway,I think !! |

Yes, I see your point - it does make you wonder if it is worth it, from reading the U.S. forums, as lots of scratches after taking the seats out!!
