First Puncture

Got my first scare yesterday, driving down the road and the I Drive went beserk at me. Turned out I have a puncture, Luck me got the tyre insurance just before it changed to this new 50/50 one so they will replace it for nothing. Only problem is the don't have any Stock in Scotland of then 255/40/18. So ai need to wait till today, how mad is that they don't have any in BMW up here.

The run flat seems as good as its word and I've not driven that far/fast so its holding up.

Anyone else had a problem getting a tyre if needed ?. Even quick fit had none..

BMW have changed the rules on tyre replacement. They will contribute 100% to a tyre with 8-5mm of tread on the tyre and only 50% for a tyre with 5mm and below. The changed happened three weeks ago....

Is that the autoprotect tyre insurance that has changed?

WOW they paid the full amount but the cover is £300 and the tyre is £377.. 7mm left after 4000 miles .black circle they come at £285 for the same tyre.. lesson learnt me thinks for when this happens again. I need to read the small print about how much tread I need as I think mine is the old 1 with full cover ..

I'm not sure what its called but its the product we were offered on our new F30 from the dealer. We had a screw in our front tyre and had to get a new one. 225/45R18 Pirreli at £209.

They changed the insurance rules to stop people driving on a screw on a 2mm tyre to then get new ones.

One of the BMW salesmen I came across when talking about tyre insurance, mentioned that customers had had all 4 tyres 'slashed' when the tyres were close to replacement and got a brand new set free of charge. Saying that this was a very unfortunate event with a wink. Makes me sick to hear of anyone promoting insurance fraud......the rest of us have the increased premiums to pay out for because of it.

Yeah I've had this where the salesmen were actually promoting to do this.... But then once you've bought the product the commission payment is in the bag!

It's good I think that they've changed the rules, the flip, side is that it doesn't make it viable to have it the cover now really unless your really unlucky with punctures.

I made a quick calculation when mulling over tyre insurance, and I worked out that I had 1 puncture in something like 9 years on average. The tyre insurance was pitched at a rate of something like 1.5 punctures in 3 years to break even. So in effect you would only benefit (on the old full replacement system) if you had 2 or more punctures every 3 years. Is that possible?

I guess the new system is more complicated to work out, but you would have to have a puncture a year or something like that to benefit?

It may be something I don't get going forward on the next car but for now, I'll pray that I'm free of the little screws. In 4000 mile I still had 7mm left so the tyres are wearing quiet well..

OP: Glad it is all sorted.
