VCG Replacement in Philly Area
Hello Fellow Forum members,
The enviable has happened and I’m in need a VCG replacement and an oil filter housing gasket replacement. The dealer (Stealer) quoted me ~$1,200 to replace. Can anyone recommend an independent or BMW specific Mechanic that might have performed the same service on their car in the Philly Area. Have heard good things about Helix, but wanted to see if anyone else could weigh in on any experiences they might have had. After searching the forum, I’ve found quite a few posts of pictures capturing that a VCG leak looks like and mine is similar to what I’ve found. The dealer says it’s not leaking but seeping which I’m assuming means that a bolt hasn’t broke yet giving me a little time to do some additional research. While doing the VCG replacement I was considering replacing the plugs while it was in for service. Additional suggestions or comments are greatly appreciated. 07 E90 328xi _ 83K **Out of CPO & currently don’t owe any $$ & would like to keep the car for a bit longer, am I getting in over my head here?** Michael |

I'd recommend Helix as well, they do good work and are reasonable. Other option is VAC (hard to get appts sometimes) or German Auto Specialists in Plymouth Mtg (I find their rates to be higher than others).
If you have the time/tools, the OFHG is not a hard DIY. The VCG is more involved, so if you're not comfortable w/DIYing based on the writeup here, it's probably worth having a shop take care of it. |

Nissan, thanks for the response! I'd rather have it performed by shop to prevent any issues in the future. I'm sure that I could DIY based on the write-ups and YouTube videos but don’t have the required tools or a good location to perform.
Has anyone had their VCG replaced recently in the Philly area? If so wherd u have it performed and what were your experiences. |
