Paintwork resilience / repair

Just got back after three days in Norway (car was in airport parking) to find a huge bit of bird poo on the roof. Not a problem I thought, i have some of the bird dropping removal wipes in the aftercare goody box. But, on using this to wipe it off it's scratched the roof! Was not expecting that at all. Any recommended action to lightly buff out the scratches?

Meguiars Ultimate Compound
Gtechniq P1 Nanopolish
Gloss It Evolution Polish
Autoglym Super Resin Polish

(the list is endless)

You'll also need a couple of applicator pads (like here - http://www.seriousperformance.co.uk/...oView_964.html)

Make sure the area is clean before polishing or you'll cause further marks.

ALWAYS use a Foam Spray for bird Lime and DON"T rub it, wash it off and re apply if you need too.
These wipes alway scratch paint.

Thanks for the advice guys. Very frustrating when you think you're doing the right thing to protect the paintwork which then appears to damage it!

Is the Meguiars Ultimate Compound much different from their Scratch X product? I have some of that as i used it to repair a deep scratch in the piano black inlay on my A3 (worked with astonishing results).

I've used Farècla G3 scratch removal liquid on my bumper for fine scratches and worked great with the foam applicator pad check it out on youtube or on their website, I also used autoglym super resin polish on my E90 previously but that did nothing to the scratch so I highly recommend G3 easy to use and great result.

Compounds are more aggressive scratch removers. This is better on German cars as their paint tends to be in the medium-hard category. You won't damage your car though if hand polishing - your probably removing less than a micron of top coat anyway.

Bare in mind - as a rule of thumb, if you rub your nail over the scratch and it digs in, then the scratch will more than likely require a touch up or smart repair as it's down to the base coat.
